About:

Andrew McLeod became only the third Crow to play 300 AFL games in 2008, reaching the milestone in Round 19 against Richmond. He was able to celebrate the day in front of a home crowd and his family, many of whom flew down from Darwin. “I was pretty excited about the day and was looking forward to it. I was just hoping the weather was going to be nice, so people could come out and watch,” McLeod said “It was just great the family could come down watch it and be part of the celebration. I was really glad and proud of the way the football club went about it. It was such a fantastic win and it makes it the little bit better I suppose.”

McLeod missed two games mid-season due to a knee injury though his stats still reflect a successful year. He was used mainly across half back with stints up forward including a match winning three goal haul against Fremantle in round five. He collected 297 kicks ranking fourth at the club, and 129 handballs. He has had a restricted pre-season after knee surgery but will be fit come round one of the home and away season.

From Darwin, McLeod started his SANFL career at Port Adelaide, where he played in the club’s 1994 premiership. He was tied to Fremantle when it was forming its inaugural AFL squad but was traded to Adelaide in exchange for Chris Groom and made his AFL debut in 1995.

Arguably one of the most improved players in the AFL, Wheatley had a fine season in 2008 bettering anything he’d done in his previous eight seasons. Had more disposals (462 at 24 a game), marks (124 at six a game) and tackles (41) than before and five times he topped 30 disposals or better. Gathered a career-high 36 touches against West Coast in round 20 and collected three Brownlow Medal votes for that performance. Finished third in the AFL for defensive clearances with 84. A fine running defender, he becomes a 10-year player for the Demons in 2009.

Made his debut in Round 4 2007 against the Eagles at Subiaco, he went on to play 5 games in his first year of AFL and showed glimpses of what’s to come.

An uncompromising defender, Anderson won Darwin’s best and fairest award at senior level in 2006. Joe was also captain of the Northern Territory at the NAB AFL National Under-18 championships.

Possesses great speed and endurance, as evidenced at the 2006 NAB AFL Draft Camp, where he finished with a 2.98 sprint time and a 14.4 beep test. Joe was selected to represent the Indigenous All Stars against Essendon in Darwin in February 2007.

The talented youngster has settled well into the Melbourne style of life and will be looking to play a few more games in his second year of AFL.
