‘CHAMPIONSHIP MOVES’ CENTRAL EAST/OAKLEIGH REGION COACH OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2010
A record number of 180 people enjoyed a terrific evening at the Central East/Oakleigh region AFCA (Australian Football Coaches Association) Coach of the Year awards on Wednesday 8th September at the Mulgrave Country Club.
This year the Awards night was supported by the Victorian State Governments Championship Moves ‘Looking out for your Mates’ Campaign. This event had 20 local coaches nominated across the category’s of Female, Auskick, Junior, Youth and Senior Football by club’s from the Central East Region of Metropolitan Melbourne.
The highlight of the evening was the panel of high profile guest speakers which included Paul Hudson (Current Collingwood FC Assistant Coach), Julie Hoornweg (Head Coach of the Melbourne Vixens Netball Team) and Lenny Hayes (St.Kilda FC Champion) who enlightened the audience with their various coaching and playing journey’s and experiences.
The Guest speakers joined together and were interviewed by the MC – Greg Doyle on all aspects of coaching and working with elite athlete’s. All speakers highlighted the importance of having mentors and key people who you can rely on to assist when required. Each of the speakers were very open and engaging to the audience and they all at times received rounds of applause for their insights.
Paul presented the Senior Coach of the Year Award to Trevor Rowe from Old Carey FC, Julie presented the Female Coach of the Year to Cheryl Critchley from Laburnum Auskick, while Lenny presented the Youth Coach of the Year to Ian Aitken from Kew JFC.
Others to present awards were Michael Stinear (Auskick State Manager) Auskick category, Justin Wenke (Oakleigh Chargers FC U/16 Coach) Junior category, and Alan Morris recognition of contribution to football in the Central East/Oakleigh region.
