Since forming in 1997, the Melbourne University Mugars have grown to be one the biggest and most successful women's football clubs around. The Mugars have won premierships in Divisions One and Two and continuously strive to make the finals each year.

Pride in the black and blue jumper and the club's welcoming atmosphere is paramount at the Mugars. Melbourne Uni has, over the years, allowed hundreds of women and girls with all sorts of backgrounds and all sorts of skill levels to play the fabulous game of football with a sociable and enthusiastic mix of people.

A thriving social club ensures that being a Mugar is about more than just evening training sessions and games on Sundays. Regular social functions and gatherings at the club's sponsor hotel, The Clyde Hotel in Carlton, are enjoyed by all.

The Mugars are always keen for volunteers to help out and new recruits of any standard and experience. At the Mugars, Victorian and All-Australian representatives train shoulder to shoulder with absolute beginners. Some of the most enthusiastic members have been those who previously knew nothing of the game, such as exchange students from the USA and Germany.
