MUDDY and cursed round 13

MAGOOS

A very nice cold, wet and muddy day. With bam playing her 100th game for the creekers, this was going to be the extra boost for the girls to get over the line. From the opening bounce the Creekers and Darebin were both keeping the pressure. The ball being tied up a lot at the bottom of a muddy pack. Darebin got the jump on the Creekers with 2 goals. Darebin were able to get the ball and use it quickly and wisely whilst the creekers stood back and wondered what was going on. The Creekers were able to answer with 1 goal from Kim. Having Pretty Girl and Megzy in the centre was a big difference in how the ball got out, but for every kick then Creekers had Darebin had an answer. One of the biggest things the Creekers struggled to do was talk, which ended up in a collision between Denae and bulldog, it sounded worse than what it actually was.

The 2nd quarter seemed to be marginally better for the Creekers keeping Darebin to 1 goal. The Creekers backline did miss Calla, yet having Vice Captain Courtney back in the side did help. Tee had a blinder, she was able to mark and kick the ball out of defense time and time again. Chuck just grabbed the ball and ran, the mud slowing her down. If the speedy players learnt how to kick on their opposite foot, it would save them having to run back into a pack every time they grab the ball.

The players looked down at half time, and the intensity had seemed to disappear out of the change rooms. Coach Wonga said to the girls that they were still in this, to keep their heads up. With a few tweaks, more talk, and a little more direction they should be able to claws their way back. So the creekers went out and to their credit kept Darebin goalless, as the backline was under a lot of pressure and never faltered. With Megzy doing most of the rucking and getting the taps, she played one of her better games. Whilst 100 gamer Bam ran her guts out being everywhere and one of the few players that was able to hold a lot of marks.

By the 4th quarter it was hard to tell which team was which as all the players were so muddy and wet. Got to give the Creekers credit they were able to keep Darebins score down even though the ball was in Darebins 50 for most of the game. Ban had a blinder of a 4th quarter, but as the ball was waterlogged it kept dropping short and the creekers were not allowing for that in their play. All in all a very scrappy game, yet the Creekers did well in the last half. If it wasn’t for Darebin getting an early jump whist the Creekers were still asleep, they would have been in with a chance.

Diamond Creek 0.0.0 defeated by Darebin 3.5.23

The footy God's weren't kind this week with heavy rain resulting in a mud infested oval.

The girls were up and about and ready to take on the challenge that lay ahead, aiming to stick more tackles than we have in the season combined!

The Creekers lost a key player in Loynesy within the first 30 seconds after sustaining an ankle injury. As expected, the game was scrappy and congested. Darebin kicked the first for the game and the next three quarters was an arm wrestle. The Creekers were ferocious with their tackling and applied enormous pressure but were unable to get the ball moving forward. Although the girls controlled much of the second half, Darebin's 3 goals were enough to win them the game. The Creekers will need to be smarter going forward to put the score on the board.

Choch had a date with a Darebin players knee which saw her already big snoz out of place and bleed profusely. She was awarded best on ground for her efforts. Auds and Millie dominated the midfield stoppages, their courage and committment to the footy was amazing. Natty was back to her best providing plenty of run. LJ proved that she can play both ends of the field with another fantastic game in the backline. Irish played one of her best games for the club, providing the onballers with first use of the ball.

The Creekers are now sitting 3rd on the ladder only by percentage meaning the girls will need a big win next week to try and jump on top of St Albans & give themselves the double chance in the finals. The girls will have to ensure they make the most of all their opportunities up forward next week.

Goals – Moving on...

Best – Chiocci, Audley, Barden, Stalder, Morecroft, Corrigan
