Youth Girls Preliminary Final Win!
Diamond Creek def South Morang Maroon
6 - 2 - 38 to 3 - 8 - 26
The Diamond Creek Youth Girls set out to make their first ever Grand Final this weekend when they took on South Morang Maroon in the Preliminary Final. In heavy conditions yet again the game was an arm wrestle from the first bounce. The creekers defenders worked extremely hard to stem the flow of the South Morang midfielders streaming the ball forward. Whilst Amy Fisher had an outstanding first quarter, booting 2 goals. Our midfielders yet again worked the length of the ground with heart and determination all day, with Sam Fisher, Ellie Koiker and Loren Tong leading the way. With a slight wind advantage in the third, South Morang kicked away to a 6 point lead coming into the final break. The girls were asked to give it their all and leave nothing on the ground. And that they did. Jess Nash willed the ball forward at every contest, with Nicole Hales leading up across the half forward line and taking some diving marks. But it was a running goal coming off the half back line from outside 50 by Courntey Donoughue that set the girls alight. With a 3 goal last quarter, and some fierce defence in the last 5 min of the game, the girls brought it home for a 12 point win. Best on ground included Zoe Mallia, Sam Fisher, Loren Tong, Elli Koiker and Tamara O'Keefe. The girls will now face Darebin in the Grand Final this SUnday the 19th. Time and venue yet to be determined. Stay tuned for the details, and come down and show your support.
Well done girls. We are all so proud of you.
