AFL Townsville to use power of one voice

A REVOLUTIONISED approach to AFL Townsville's governance will take the code to another stratosphere in the city.

That is the plan when a new board structure is implemented at December's annual general meeting.

From each arm of the sport in the city - seniors, juniors, masters, women's and umpires - being run almost independently, they will be brought together in an umbrella approach similar to rugby league's newly-formed ARL Commission.

Director of AFL Townsville John Durkin said that for too long it had been a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.

While all had good intentions, they often ended up working against each other and he said that had to stop.

"It's about growth of the game," Durkin said.
