This revised policy became effective on 15th December 2014.
1. KEY AIMS
The key aims of the Camberwell "Sharks" Junior Football Club ("the Club") registration policy are:
- to provide as many children as possible with a game of football, irrespective of their ability; and
- to keep "friendship groups" of players intact wherever possible in age groups U8 to U12, and to grade players on the basis of ability and physical readiness in age groups U13 to Colts.
2. REGISTRATION PROCESS
Registrations are taken online through the AFL’s footweb system. A link to the Registration Form will be available on the club’s website www.camberwellsharks.com.au
A Registration is not complete until:
- The player has submitted all required information via the form; and
- Made payment for the Registration Fees via credit card using the footyweb system ,thus generating a payment timestamp and a ‘pending’ registration; and
- The club, having received notification of the pending Registration, and processing registrations in order of receipt, identifies that there is available capacity within an appropriate team in which to place the player and confirms the registration.
2.1 A Priority Registration Period for Returning Players will be opened for a period of not less than 2 weeks prior to Registration Day. Returning Players who register in this period will be given priority in team placement for the coming season ahead of players new to the club.
2.2 Registration Day for New Players will be held on the 2nd Sunday of February, with online registrations possible for a period of not less than 3 hours as notified on the club website. A New Player is defined as one who has not previously played club football. Registration may re-open sometime after Registration Day where there is sufficient capacity within teams and age groups to accommodate players.
2.3 Players from other clubs seeking to Transfer into the Sharks should email the club Registrar with proof of ID (birth certificate, passport, Student ID), and details of their previous club. Transfer details can be lodged with the Registrar at any time. The AFL transfer system opens February 1st each year and transfers may take up to 10 days to be finalised. The club will advise the player when clearance has been received and at that time the player may complete online registration.
3. COMPOSITION OF TEAMS
3.1 Age Groups
Age restrictions will be enforced in that:
- No player will be permitted to register unless he/she is at least 7 years of age as at 1 January of that year ; and
- No player will be permitted to play more than 2 years out of his/her age group (that is, an Under 10 player will not be permitted to play in an Under 13 match).
These age restrictions are consistent with the current policies of the Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL).
3.2 Number of teams:
Prior to Registration Period the Club will advise via the club's website how many teams it expects field at every age group level for that coming year. Factors taken into consideration will include anticipated demand and the availability of grounds.

3.4 Team Selection
3.4.1 U8 – U12s
In seeking to group players with their friends in these age groups the club considers (in order of precedence):
- Previous Sharks team (if any)
- School attended
- Auskick centre attended
- Requests made known to the club via the registration form
While every effort is made to meet requests, no guarantee can be given. Due to the relatively small size of sides in the U8/U9 competitions in particular, groups from some schools may need to be spread across more than one team.
The Club reserves the right to re-allocate players from one team to another (after consultation with the children/parents) in the event that some evening up of numbers is required to ensure the viability of one, or more, team(s) at any particular age group level. For example, in the event that one team at an age group level has 25 registered players and another 15, then the Club reserves the right to investigate the possibility of evening up numbers across that age group level.
3.4.2 U13s - Colts
It is Club policy to grade/stream players at the U13 level and above.
In the event that more than one team is fielded at any of these age group levels, players will be selected to play in a team based on a number of factors including playing ability and physical readiness.
The selection committee will be appointed by the Club's Committee and will generally comprise a minimum of 3 people, which includes the 2 coaches, and it will have the flexibility to move players between the teams at any time during the year, subject to complying with the YJFL's rules.
Further detail is provided in the document 'Sharks' Streaming Policy' also available on this site or on request from the Registrar.
3.4.3 Reduction in the number of teams:
In the event that there is a reduction in the number of teams fielded from one year to the next (eg, 3 x U11 teams reduce to 2 x U12 teams in the following year), then players will be allocated to teams by the coaches/team managers in consultation with the Committee.
4. Excess Players
Where registrations exceed places available, excess players will be placed on a waiting list and offered a place should one become available. Such places will be offered to excess players on the basis of the order of receipt of their registration.
5. Combination Team:
Should the Club have a reasonable number of excess players at an age group level, the Club will consult with the children/parents to establish their preparedness to play as part of a combination team with excess players from another Club in the local area.
If there are insufficient children who are prepared to play in a "combination team" and/or the Club only has a small number of excess players and/or the Club is unable to establish a "combination team" with another Club at an age group level, then the Club will not be able to offer those excess players a game in that particular year and will advise the children/parents accordingly as soon as possible.
