Round 3 match reports by Stephen Marson
Under 19’s:
An impressive display by Northcote Park saw them fall agonisingly short of reigning premiers Greensborough by three points. In another wet weather contest for the Cougars, they started off the better side, and were rewarded fir their opening quarter efforts.
There was only five goals kicked to half time, as the Boro headed to the break leading by eight points. A special mention to Mohammed Saad, who was taken to hospital during the half time break after a courageous attack on the ball left him a bit dazed, best of luck for the recovery.
Both sides played better footy after half time, but the Cougars execution in front of goal was still lacking, as they kicked 3.6 for the term, to still trail Greensborough at three quarter time.
The final quarter was end to end the whole way until goals to Janus Waldron and Alastair Punshon cut the margin to two points with only a few minutes left, but it wasn’t to be for the Cougars.
Reserves:
A 14 goal to two second half for Greensborough saw them run out comfortable 107-point winners over Northcote Park.
The Cougars began a slower side, and were punished early as Greensborough kicked a few quick first quarter goals. The second term was much better from Northcote Park, as they were harder at it and were winning the contested ball, but still couldn’t get enough inside 50 chances.
Northcote Park were in the game up until half time, as they only trailed by 25 points at the main break.
It was one-way traffic after half time however, as Greensborough turned on the style to record a big victory.
Seniors:
Greensborough were too good for Northcote Park as they led from start to finish in a solid 38-point victory.
The Boro forwards were too strong early for their opponents, which got Greensborough off to a handy first quarter lead.
A better second term performance for the Cougars saw them only 18 points down at half time, as Koden Colman, Jacob Mitchell and Jordan Collopy all goaled in the second to keep their side in it.
Like the previous two quarters, Northcote Park had most of the ball early, but couldn’t hit the scoreboard. Greensborough finally got on top, and really flexed their muscles, with a five goal to zero quarter.
Northcote Park lifted late and won the final term, but the margin was already beyond doubt for the Cougars.
