Reta Fitzpatrick Semi Final Cup Game.

Premier vs Avon @ QEII No1 we won 5  -  0

Wow what a great game by both teams, Avon Stepped up last night at QEII and kept the girls on their toes. As per normal they had most of the team in the backs and made it hard for the strikers to put it in the back of the net. We were up 2 nil at half time with Ruggie getting her first goal for the season only to get another 2 in the second half to make it a hat trick for her on the night. Avon got a great header from a cross only to be disallowed as she was off side. To add to the goals was Liz and Georgia.

Goal Scorers – Kirsty Butland aka Ruggie 3, Georgia Goulding and Liz Gilchrist

Player of the day – Ruggie

Final is on Saturday 12th September vs Coastal Spirit

Western Claim Title With Three Games To Spare

Western were untroubled to defeat Avon United 4 - nil and wrap up their second Matson's Premier League title in three years with defending champion's, Coastal Spirit staking their claim for second place when overcoming Halswell United 2 - nil as Ferrymead Bays had the weekend off with the bye. Unbeaten Western now have 35 points, fifteen clear of Coastal Spirit, with Ferrymead Bays third on the ladder on 15, Halswell 14 and Avon United 3.
Coming into the game
Western needed just a point over Avon to secure the trophy and took the lead after 8 minutes when Liz Gilchrist was on hand to put the final touch to a flowing move by Western. Leigh Alexander then doubled the lead with Gilchrist then cleverly getting her head to the ball to put Western three up great on the stroke of half time. Western eased off somewhat after the break and with Avon keeper Jess Clark producing several excellent saves the only other goal of the game saw the hard working Alice Pilgrim score her first PFL goal of the season. Western now face a busy week as they face Avon again on Tuesday evening in their semi-final of the Donnithorne Simms Mitsubishi Reta Fitzpatrick Cup with the winner meeting Coastal Spirit in the final before Western travel south to square off in their quarter final tie  against Roslyn Wakari in the National Women's Knock Cup in Sunday.
