Guide Notes Rd 16, 2009

Congratulations: A massive pat on the back goes to all those who made the Mystery Flight Night such a success. This night would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the huge contributions made by Cooky, Bezza, and Bones. And these guys wouldn’t have achieved any of it if they weren’t being gently guided by Sophie, Michelle or Lauren. I know there were a number of other helpers and thanks goes out to them all but it was the vision of Lauren who made the night come together. Well done. What about the performance of Captain Rix, and his flight attendants, Meridie, Brenda and Felicity? Very entertaining!

Tonight after the game we will be staying at the rooms to have a send off for Matt Hamdorf, who will play his last game next week. Matt, Kerry and Addison will all be heading up to Katherine to follow Matt’s budding career as an AFL Development Officer. The whole club will miss them and we wish them all the very best for their future.

Another god solid performance by the boys but just couldn’t overcome the slow start. The good effort was overshadowed by the Achilles injury to Shaun who will now miss the remainder of the season. We wish him well in his recovery. The best players were Simon Dean in his best performance of the season, Willow, Dicko, Cooky, Lazer and Justin Raiti.

The reserves lost a game that, on paper, was well within their grasp. But not to be and it will be very hard to find a spot in the four now. Those who toiled all day were Todd Armsden, Bones, Josh Brock, Dave Gray, Tom Kennedy and Ben Fenna.

The U/18’s were also a good show on paper and really took it up to Imps before the greemn machine took over after the long break. Consistency and persistence to finish off games will come with a little more dedication to the cause. The best players were Aiden who’s recovered well from his accident, Cam Lange, Ben Halls, Josh Probert who’s still kicking himself about the $500, mick Dimasi who’s been in the best players every week this season and Lauchy Trollope who is developing into a handy player for the club.

The netballers had good wins in the U/17’s and the C Grade but fell short in the B Grade and injuries certainly cost us dearly in the A Grade.

PAST PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS: Welcome to all Past Players and Officials who are in attendance today as well as the Sponsors and Platinum Members who are enjoying our hospitality. Let’s hope the boys put in a big one to overcome the improving Swallows

GALA BALL: As with all functions the club expects all players and partners to be in attendance. Cost for the evening is $40.

This week’s Featured Sponsor is Grand Hotel. Thanks to Emily Tassone and the catering staff for their valued contribution over the past three seasons.

Guide Notes Rd 15, 2009

It was pretty disappointing result against a team who we have previously pushed to the end. We play top side Imperials this week and we are anticipating a close encounter before we head back to the rooms for the Flight night.

The thirds started the day off in fine fashion with a win over the young Roos. They are still in the hunt for the finals so a win today will go a long way towards that goal. Best players from last week were, Josh Fiebig, Josh Probert, Mick Dimasi, Scotty Richards, Anthony Cox and Jackson Tung.

The reserves needed a win to be on level points with Imps and Robinvale but couldn’t manage the win. Best players were Dave Gray (again), Bones (again), Josh Brock (again), Todd Armsden, Aaron Hughes and Ben Fenna.

The senior better players on an otherwise dismal day were, Shaun John, Mat Hamdorf, Nick Rodi, Willow and Liam Rix.

The netballers had good wins in all grades and the best players were Ash Healy and Jordan Polkinghorne in the A Grade, Emily Symons and Beck Kelly in the B Grade, Melina Blagus and Deb O’Brien in the C Grade and in the U/17’s Lucy Timmons and Steph Leake.

MYSTERY FLIGHT NIGHT: Tonight’s the night we take off on our round the world trip. There will be a few destinations on the night and the girls have worked extremely hard to get this flight night off the ground. All players, footballers and netballers, are expected to buy a ticket and sell a ticket. It is crucial to the club that we have a full plane. 7 pm start. For more details please see Lauren, Michelle, Sophie or Hahny. Player match and incentive payments will be made on the night as well.

PAST PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS are invited to attend a luncheon and get together to watch the game when we play Irymple in Round 16 on August the 1st. See Peter Hahn to arrange your tickets and book your tables. The cost is $50/person which includes lunch and beverages starting at 1.30pm and going throughout the senior match. There are only 100 seats available.

GALA BALL: Table captains will be allocated soon for the Gala Ball. The ball will be held at the Workers again this year and will be on after our clash against Red Cliffs in round 17. As with all functions the club expects all players and partners to be in attendance. Cost for the evening is $40. Guide Notes Rd 14, 2009

Congratulations to Michelle Barry and Brett Beswick on their recent engagement. All involved at the club wish you well for the future.

The seniors did just enough to overcome the Magpies. The best players were Jamahl Liddle, Justin Raiti, Sonny Lindsey, Matt Hamdorf, Andrew Willison and Hayden cook.

The reserves took a while to overcome the pies but a four goal last quarter gave them the points. The best players were Dave Gray; check his profile on the website, Casey Wandel, Matt Goldsworthy, Josh Brock, Ryan Taylor and for his first game up Scott Richards.

The thirds had a 14 a side match against the pies and were good winners on the day. It was important to give the undermanned pies a game of footy because a forfeit doesn’t benefit anyone. The best players were Cam Lang, Mick Dimasi, Locky Trollope, Stevie Sellens, Winno, and Josh Fiebig.

TRIVIA NIGHT: the trivia night held last week was a resounding success. The president surrounded himself with smart people and his table took out the major prize which was kindly donated by Steve Reberger from The Gateway Tavern. The evening was a combined effort by the junior and senior committees and the event should be considered an annual event. We must again thank those who attended the night and Kane and his helpers who put in a lot of hard work and of course we especially thank Andrew Diwell for the time and effort he put in to make the night an enjoyable one.

MYSTERY FLIGHT NIGHT: Players are reminded that we will be handing out the tickets for the Mystery Flight Night. All players, footballers and netballers, are expected to buy a ticket and sell a ticket. It is crucial to the club that we have a full plane. We are hosting the Magpies today and we welcome them to the Kennel. Hopefully the boys have enjoyed the weekend off and are refreshed for the remainder of the year. Nath Johns had his 21st last weekend and there were plenty of things happening around the place. Ask Shaun his new method of washing clothes….. I personally don’t think it will catch on.

TRIVIA NIGHT: We are holding a trivia night in conjunction with the Juniors tonight. The night will start at 6.30. all people attending are asked to provide their own platters and food/nibbles for the evening. Please organize your tables of ten and get your money in to Lauren or Hahny (Ticket are available $10/person $25/family).

Guide Notes Rd 13a, 2009

What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon by beating one of our traditional rivals in the Demons. It was a character building win considering we were down at ¼ time by 6 goals. It definitely bodes well for the future of the club. Well done to Dion Shinas who performed very well in his first senior game. Others to play well were Willow (Workers), Justin Raiti (Doms), Sam, Sonny and Lazer.

The two’s just couldn’t bridge the gap in a tight encounter. The best players were David Gray (Workers), Ben Fenna (Doms), Ben Love, Belly, Brocky and Bones .

The U/18’s won a great game over their fancied opponents. This puts them in striking distance of the four. We are certainly playing a good brand of footy, keep up the good work boys. The best players were Josh Fiebig, Cam Lang, Damien Ford, Michael Dimasi, Ben Halls and Jackson Tung.

The Netballers had a great day winning close games in the A and B grades, A Grade won by 4 points and the best players were Michelle Barry (Workers) and Erin Gathercole. The B Grade won by 2 points with the best being Ash Loveridge (Doms) and Bec Kelly. The C Grade had a big win by 22 points and Lucy Timmons (Doms) and Brooke Bland being the best players. In the U/17’s the girls had a draw scoring 15 points apiece. The best players were Georgia Evans (Doms) and Steph Leake.

TRIVIA NIGHT: We are holding a trivia night in conjunction with the Juniors on Saturday the 11th July. This is after our match against Merbein. Please organize your tables of ten and get your money in to Lauren or Hahny (Ticket are now available $10/person $25/family).

Welcome to all of our sponsors who are with us today. We all know that without the continuous and generous support of all of our sponsors we would not be able to run the club as successfully as we are. Please enjoy the day and cheer on the boys and help them overcome the visiting Demons.

We had another enthralling game of footy in the seniors last week against the Eagles. Apart from a 10 minute lapse in the second we equaled, if not dominated, them all over the ground. It was a heartening loss if there is such a thing but no one can deny the effort from the boys. The best were Stoney (Workers), Cookie (Doms), Luke Mac, Piggy, Willow and Lazer.

The ressies had another day where they were certainly better than their opposition but couldn’t transfer that from paper to field. They ended the game by outscoring the Eagles in the last but the Eagles could be excused for taking their foot off the gas and coast to the end. The best players were the usual suspects in David Gray (Gateway), Stephen Bell (Doms), Casey Wandel, and other players to step up were Ben Love, Ben Fenna and Corey Walsh .

The thirds were thereabouts all game and started particularly well however a lack of conversion was ultimately our downfall. Best players were Cam Lang (Telstra), Luke Taylor (Doms), Ben Halls, Aids, Feibs and Mick Dimasi.

The Netballers continued on their winning ways over the Eagles. Strong wins by A Grade, B Grade and the U/17’s with the C Grade girls having the bye. The Doms award winners were A Grade Michelle Barry, B Grade Emily Symons who also won the U/17. All grades are in the top four with the A Grades girls in 2nd. The B grade in 3rd. the C Grade girls on top and the U/17’s sitting in 3rd.

TRIVIA NIGHT: We are holding a trivia night in conjunction with the Juniors on Saturday the 11th July. This is after our match against Merbein. Please organize your tables of ten and get your money in to Lauren or Hahny (Ticket are now available $10/person $25/family).

Guide Notes Rd 11, 2009

Well here we are in sunny Robinvale to tackle the Eagles. Please take time to go over and support the juniors who have also made the trek today. It is vitally important for the future of the club to help out with the kids as well as support the senior teams. After today’s game we are heading back to Doms for a meal and a drink and we want as many players and supporters to support our two contestants in the Mr Sunraysia competition being held there. Let’s make it a successful night as we do need to support our sponsors.

After watching the football from the sidelines for the first quarter last week the senior side hopped over the fence at ¼ time and played some pretty good footy, outscoring the Tigers in the second half but the damage had been done and they couldn’t bridge the gap. The best players were Darren Brown (Workers), Piggy (Doms), Squinter, Luke Mac, Aaron Mac and Cookie.

After the previous week’s enormous effort to topple Imp’s the ressies had a day to forget. They will be looking for revenge against the Eagles this week. The best players were “ugly” Dave Gray (Doms), Josh Brock (Gateway), Ben Fenna, Matt Goldsworthy, Stephen Bell and Todd Armsden.

The thirds were again our shining light in the football stakes and played a good brand of footy. Keep up the good work. Best players were Aiden Giddings (Doms), Luke Taylor (Telstra), Jack Stanley, Dion Shinas and Cameron Lang.

Wins all round for the netballers. All grades had comfortable wins over the Tigers which was pleasing to see. We had the use of the new netball court and Maddie Polkinghorne scored the first goal in competition on it. There are a few issues to be resolved but overall the court is fantastic for the club.

Congratulation to David Veit who won the members draw last week. He took home the jackpot of $1000. There is $100 up for grabs each week on Thursday night. Make the effort and come down and enjoy a meal and have a few froffies with the boys. See you there.

PAST PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS are invited to attend a luncheon and get together to watch the game when we play Irymple in Round 16 on August the 8th. It will be a fantastic day which will include Lunch and beverages. It will be a great day to catch up with some old team mates and officials of this Grand Old Club. See Peter Hahn to arrange your tickets and book your tables. There are only 100 seats available.

This week’s Featured Sponsor is Stockdale & Leggo. Sam Boake is our Joint coach and is making his way in the Real Estate world and we wish him well. We would also encourage all of our supporters who are looking to buy or sell property to give him a call on 0400658461.

Guide Notes Rd 10, 2009

Thank you to all players and supporters who attend the after game drinks and meal at the Gateway Tavern last week. This is the type of support our sponsors deserve and helps ensures future partnerships. Tonight we are back at the club for a Spaghetti & Karaoke night, let’s all get back into the rooms and enjoy the night.

The seniors performed well last week in the wet weather and showed what a good side we can be when everyone plays their role. It was nice to have Brian Fenton back with us from his Pioneer’s duties and likewise it was very pleasing to have our Joint coach Sam Boake back in the team after recovering from injury. He certainly added the extra leadership that we have sorely needed. The best players were Lazer (Workers), Liam (Doms), Browny who sparkled, Piggy relishing the mud, Luke Mac and Zane Taylor.

The reserves had a resounding win over the previously undefeated Irymple side. Ryan Taylor (Gateway), Josh Brock (Doms), Stephen Bell, Jason Harris, David Gray and Tommy Kennedy were the best players for the day in a great team effort.

The thirds were very stiff not to get all the points after out playing the Swallows for most of the day. They had a few opportunities towards the end to sneak a point but the gods wouldn’t have. The best players were Josh Probert (City Limits), Cameron Lang (Telstra), Michael Dimasi, Damien Ford, Jack Haggett, and Jack Stanley.

The dates to remember are; After the Robinvale game we will be meeting again at Dom’s for our second payments night this will coincide with the “Sunraysia’s Best Footballer” night where we will have two of our boys entered for the $1000 prize. Get your tables ready for the Trivia night after our match against Merbein and book your seats on the mystery Flight night. See Lauren or the girls for bookings and more details.

The A Grade netballers were our only winners in the netball last week with the B, C and U/17 girls all going down in close games. This keeps our senior girls firmly in 2nd place on the ladder. The girls who took home the Doms awards were; A Grade, Lauren Gray; B Grade, Brenda Evans; C Grade, Sarah Maybury; U/17’s Emma Stanbridge.

This week’s Featured Sponsor is Tankard Dental. Thanks to Richard and Daniel for their continuing support and when you need dental work please use Tankard’s to get the work done.

Let’s have a big one toady against an always difficult Tigers and celebrate it in style tonight.

Guide Notes Rd 9, 2009

All players and supporters are asked to attend tea and drinks at the Gateway Tavern tonight after our match against the Swallows. The Gateway Tavern is our Featured Sponsors this week and we need to show them our support for all of the good work they do for our club. Be there!

The reserves were our footballers shining lights last week against Imperials. They held on for a very determined and gutsy win despite the physical attention from the umpires. Well done guys, the best players were David Gray (Doms) Todd Armsden (Gateway) Josh Brock, Stephen Bell, Casey Wandel and Jason Harris. A quick shout out to Justin Burr and Anthony O’Brien who played their first games for the club and Anthony sealing the win with his first goal for his new club.

The U/18’s were jumped in the first quarter again and fought on well for the rest of the game but couldn’t bridge the gap. Best players were Cameron Lang (City Limitz) Josh Fiebig (Telstra) Josh Probert, Michael Dimasi, Jarrod Underwood and Dion Shinas who kicked a couple against his old side.

The seniors lost the mental battle against Imps and were outgunned on the day. We were disappointed in the result but we are not disheartened by the talent of the players coming up through our ranks with nine players who have yet to play 50 senior games and eight of those who have not played more than 15 games. The future bodes well for us. The best players on the day were Piggy (Doms), Flacky (Workers), Lazer, Brett Beswick, Willow and Browny.

The dates to remember are, next week after the Red Cliffs match at home we will be having a Spaghetti and Karaoke night in the rooms. After the Robinvale game we will be meeting again at Dom’s for our second payments night this will coincide with the “Sunraysia’s Best Footballer” night where we will have two of our boys entered for the $1000 prize. Get you tables ready for the Trivia night and book you seats on the mystery Flight night. See Lauren or the girls for bookings and more details.

The members draw was $900.00 last Thursday, so get down to the club and have tea, a few drinks, buy a raffle ticket and be in the draw. You’ll be home tucked up in bed and well fed by 9pm with a meat tray in the fridge and a few hundred bucks in your pocket. I it jackpots to $1000 we will keep drawing until it’s won. But you have to be there.

What a great tussle our Netballers are having against Imperials with the a Grade girls going down by a point, the B grade Drawing, the C grade thrashing them and our u/17’s winning by 4 points. Well Done to all girls. The Doms awards went to Tammie Rowe (A), Emily Symons (B), Lucy Timmons (C) and Steph Leake(U17) who also was among our best in the A Grade as well.

Guide Notes Rd 8, 2009

Congratulations to all of our interleague representatives who were selected in last week’s match. Leyland Brougham, Andrew Willison and Aaron McClelland were all selected in the senior side. John Panagiataros, Michael Dimasi, James Flack and Aiden Giddings who were selected in the U/18’s team and Ash Healy and Demalza Brougham who represented us in the Netball. Well done everyone.

This week it is the VCFL Bushfire Appeal weekend where we are raising funds to help support all those who suffered through the Black Saturday bushfires, please give generously..

It seems like yesterday that we were hosting Wentworth and what a great effort it was from our guys to really push the Roo’s who are genuine finals contenders. We went into the game with a number of inexperienced players and there were murmurs of a big defeat. The boys on the park showed that with a little commitment, effort and heart we are a very capable side. All in all it bodes well for our future to see the youngsters stepping up and playing good football. The best players for the game were Luke Teasdale (Workers), Liam Rix (Doms), Nathan Johns, Shaun Johns, Zane Taylor and Andrew Willison. Well done to Josh Pike and Damien Ford who both played their first game of senior footy. I’m sure Fordy won’t forget his first kick in a hurry, a 6 pointer!

The reserves were soundly beaten which is not a real reflection of some of the talent running around. The better players were David Gray, Matt Goldsworthy, Josh Brock, Casey Wandel, Aaron Clarke and Michael Powell in his last game with us before moving back to QLD. We wish him well.

The U/18’s again had plenty of the ball but couldn’t convert with the best players being, Cameron Lang, Luke Taylor, Jarrod Underwood, Michael Dimasi, Blayk Rhodes who continues to improve, and Benn Henderson.

Every Thursday night at the clubrooms after training we hold meat raffles, supplied by Wagner’s Butchery and a members draw. Last time the draw had Jackpotted to $800. Remember you must be at the draw to win the dough. So why not come down and watch the boys train have a beer with Dribs and Dave at the bar, have tea at the clubrooms and have a chance to win the big money or at least take home a meat tray from one of the five draws.

The Netballers had a good weekend also with all grades winning on the day. Sorry girls about the lack of detail. I will get it right next week.

This week’s Featured Sponsors are Byrne Plastering Group, we thank Kenny and the boys for their continued support and as always we urge all of our supporters to try them out for all of your plastering needs.

We welcome Wentworth to the Kennel today to fight it out for the Terry Dean Shield. This shield has been contested between the two clubs since 2004. Terry is a life member at both clubs for his long and valued service to both. The Roo’s currently hold the shield after their win over us last season and this week gives us a change to square the ledger at three wins apiece.

Well done to our first gamers in Tom Sherry and Aaron “Augie” Hughes, both played intergral parts in our win and have proven that they will be senior players of the future.Last week was a real positive for the club as all grades in the netball as well as the three senior grades of footy had wins. This hasn’t happened for a while so congratulations to all. We had an excellent turn out at Doms on Saturday night and had a very enjoyable evening.

While I’m handing out congratulations we must also congratulates Dicko and Shaun who both played there 50th senior games for the club against Mildura a couple of weeks back. Another that we/I missed was Piggy who played his 50th senior game for the club way back in round 2.

The seniors finally shook off the Merbein side who were very committed and ran out comfortable winners with the best players being, Willow, who should be in the interleague side, Lazer, Squinter, Shauny, Flacky and Rixy.

How good was Todd Armsden’s celebration after one of Matt Tickell’s goals? So excited was Todd he nearly ripped off poor Matt’s head. This is a good result for the boys who have been working very hard on the track. The best players in an enthralling match were Browny, Bones, Belly, Dave Gray, Todd the executioner and Mick Powell Jnr.

The U/18’s played out a solid performance over a very undermanned Merbein side and have helped themselves to a handy percentage boost. The best players were Lachlan Trollope, Michael Dimasi, Jarrod Underwood, Aaron Graham, Josh Probert and Luke Taylor.

The netballers all had comfortable wins against the Magpies and the best players were; A Grade, Eleisha Lay and Carrie Belej; B Grade, Hayley Dalla Santa and Ash Loveridge; C Grade, Nat Dean and Brooke Bland. Well done girls keep up the good work.

No official function this week boys and girls but the club rooms will be open.

Guide Notes Rd 6, 2009

Happy Mother’s Day for tomorrow ladies. I hope you all have an enjoyable day. Today we recognize the Pink Footy Day supporting women with breast cancer in an initiative of the VCFL supporting the Breast Cancer Network Australia. I am sure everyone in attendance today has been involved with someone close to them either through friends or family who have suffered from breast cancer. Give generously to any raffle/donations being sort today.

What a turn around a week in football can have. Well done to the seniors who after having an atrocious couple of weeks really turned it on against our old rivals Mildura. We had the better of them for most of the game and only inaccuracy kept the Dee’s in the game. This is the sort of form that encourages supporters to start to believe in us again so keep up the good work. The best players for the day were Cooky who’s relishing his rucking duties, Lazer in a return to form, Jamahl who kicked 8, Dicko who played his 50th senior game for the club, Rixy, Stoney and Azza.

Some very dubious calls made in the closing stages contributed to a close loss in the ressies, however they were not the sole reason for the loss. We continue to have strong numbers at training and we are getting fitter each week so the season will continue to improve as the teamwork and fitness levels rise. The best players were Ben Fenna, Stephen Bell, Jason O’Brien, Chaise Egan, Matt Goldsworthy and Brett Beswick in a return from injury.

The slow start to the game basically killed off the U/18 early even though they staged a good rally in the last they couldn’t recover from the early deficit set. The best players were Ben Halls, Michael Dimasi, Jarrod Underwood, Luke Taylor, Lachlan Trollope and Damien Ford.

The A grade netballers suffered their first defeat at the hands of Mildura. We were a little unsettled with the inclusion of a couple of fresh faces but we will bounce back strongly against the Magpies this week. The other grades are all still going along their winning ways and it shows we have a great depth in the netball ranks. The best players were, A Grade, Carrie Belej and Tammy Rowe. B Grade, Kerri Gaylor and Emily Symons. C Grade, Ash Loveridge and Deb O’Brien and in the U/17’s Maddy Polkinghorne and Elisha Lay.

Thank you to all of the supporters who bought tickets in the $100 draw last week. The club rooms were at full capacity and every one had a huge night. Thanks to all who helped out on the night. Congratulations to Luke Kearney and Matt Chilton who took out the major prize.

Dom’s for tea tonight, all are welcome, kid’s included. We want to support our sponsors and by going attending tonight’s function we can show it. As well as having a good feed and enjoying a few froffies together we will be handing out player payments, weekly awards and the all important incentive money. You must be in attendance to receive your dues. BE THERE from 6.45 onwards.

This week’s featured sponsor is Doms Restaurant & Bar. Contact A very big thank you to Liam Wood and his staff. Let’s have a great day together and watch the mighty doggies take on the Magpies.

Congratulations to the reserve and U/18 teams notching up very good wins over the Eagles. The team work is starting to show in the thirds and a bit of fitness showed in the ressies. Keep up the good work boys it was an excellent effort. Sadly the senior group couldn’t go on with it after such a promising start and again turnovers and a lack of preparation saw us soundly beaten.

The U/18 beating the previously undefeated Eagles was a good reward to the effort everyone has put in. This win should give you all the confidence that you need to keep on improving and more wins are sure to follow. The best players for the day were Big Tom, Josh Fiebig, Luke Taylor who is starting to show some of his U/16 form, Undies, Mick Dimasi and Lachlan Trollope who continues to improve.

The Ressies held on to win in a nail biter and it would have been rough justice if they had of lost. The best for the day were Josh Brock who is in fine form at the moment, Clarkey with his 5 goal haul, the regular Quadruplets of Bones, Belly, Browny and Tommy who are always amongst our best.

The senior started off well and held a good lead at ¼ time but lost concentration towards the end of the second and from there the Eagles never looked back. Dicko is relishing his new role in defense, Willow who give 100% every week, Nathan Johns who enjoyed his spell up forward, Liam Rix with another solid performance, Aaron Mac played well under enormous repeated pressure and Luke Teasdale who played with us on permit.

Tonight is our $100 back to Front Draw, there are a few tickets left so get in and see Hahny or the committee to procure yours. The night will start at 7.30 pm at the club rooms.

A couple of dates to remember are, Saturday the 9th May after the Merbein game we will be having tea at the Gateway Tavern. Saturday the 16th May we are holding a corporate lunch day Sponsored by The Quality Grand Hotel and GTS Transport, $50 per person and you will be treated to a corporate lunch and hospitality throughout the day. See the Girls for tickets.

Wins in all grades of the netball shows what a great group of girls we have at the club. Not only do they play netball well they also put on a pretty good feed, contrary to the President’s remarks prior to the evening last week. Well done girls on the successful night. The better players last week were, A Grade, Carrie Belej and Michelle Barry. B Grade, Hayley Dalla Santa and Emily Symons. U/17’s, Georgia Evans and Eliesha Lay.

A quick mention must go out to Sammy Smyth who, along side Max Thorburn, does a footy show on HOT FM, 106.7 on Friday afternoons from 3.30 – 4.00 pm weekly.

This week’s Featured Sponsor is the Byrne Plaster Group, we thank Kenny and Peter for their continued support and with all our sponsors we urge all of our supporters to give them a call for all of their plastering needs.

A big welcome to all of our Life Members who are here today for the Life Members Luncheon. There are quite a number of people who have put a lot of time and effort into the club over the years and a good number of them are here today. Please make all welcome.

The u/18’s produced their first win of the year against a gallant Red Cliffs side, the best players for the day were Josh Fiebig, Josh Probert, Scott Richards, Michael Dimasi, Steve Sellens and Josh Pike. Looks like you had to be named Josh to play well.

We had plenty of numbers to choose from in the reserves for the first time in quite a while and once everyone knows each others names we will quickly form a good side. The better players on Saturday were Stephen Bell, Josh Brock, Aaron Hughes, Casey Wandel, Jason Harris who did a great job in his first game back at the club and Todd Armsden who performed well.

The Seniors were outgunned on the night and the players who played well were Leyland Brougham, Luke McClelland who took some exceptional marks but lost his bag, Captain Piggy who is having a good season to date, Shaun Johns, Liam Rix and Dave Gray who is taking his opportunities in the senior side.

The netballers won all grades against the Lady Tigers and are undefeated in the A Grade. It was a good day out for the Junior girls as well on Sunday.

Don’t forget that after next week’s game against Mildura we are having our back to front draw at the clubrooms, starting at 7.30 pm. See Jason O’Brien or Hahny for tickets.

Tonight after the game we are having a casserole night put on by the netballers, stay after the game and enjoy the fine cuisine that will be on offer for only $5 per person.

JG King Homes are our featured sponsors for this week. We thank Andrew Rix for his efforts as both the U/18’s Coach and Sponsor to the club. Support our sponsors by checking out the products and services that they have to offer.

Guide Notes Rd 3, 2009

What a fantastic day for the Senior Bulldogs last week. We retained both memorial shields in the footy and the netball. It’s been a while since we have had 10 goal kickers in a game. It was also very pleasing to see Barney Nunan our 1948 B&F winner and Mike Chirgwin our 1968 & 1969 premiership captain at the game as well.

A huge crowd enjoyed some good old fashioned, hard at the footy, football which took us all back a number of years. The best players for the ones were Andrew Willison, Sam Boake, James Flack, Matt Hamdorf, Leyland Brougham, and Zane Taylor with his four goals.

The two’s had a day to forget and just could not match the experience of the Irymple side. Those who toiled well all day were Casey Wandel, Aaron Clarke, Darren Brown, Tom Kennedy, Jacob Evans, and Ryan Taylor

The thirds boys played excellent passages of footy but couldn’t put them together often enough. The best players were Jarrod Underwood, Michael Dimasi, Aiden Giddings, Steve Sellens, Damien Ford and Tom Sherry

The Netballers had another round of mixed results with the A grade and C grade winning but the B grade and U/17’s losing in very close encounters. Best players were A Grade Michelle Barry and Ash Healy, B Grade Hayley Dalla Santa, C Grade Nat Dean and Deb O’Brien, U/17’s Georgia Evans and Lucy Timmons.

The $100 back to front draw will be held in three weeks time so please see Hahny for your tickets. These tickets sold very quickly last year so be early and get you tickets organized so you don’t miss out. We will be holding this at the club rooms after the round 5 match against Mildura.

We will be holding the Life Members Lunch on Sunday the 26th of April. $10 per head

Players please note that your memberships and registrations are due; if you are not financial you will have to pay admission at the gate, so let’s take the pressure off Ernie and Dave at the gate and get the money in. See

The Featured Sponsor this week is Hungry Jacks. We send out a huge thank you to Greg Stephens and the crew over on 15th street. Please not that all members who present their members cards with get a free upgrade at the Mildura store.

Welcome everyone to the Kennel today Good Friday. I hope everyone enjoys today’s match being played for the Dowling Hurst Shield. The game is played between South and Irymple each year at our first meeting. We currently hold the shield after a fine win at Irymple last season and I hope we retain it today.

The seniors had a few key boys out who were missed in the starting line up. Turn overs were our worst enemy which proved too costly in the end. Best player for the day were Aaron McClelland, Captain Piggy, the reigning B&F Willow, our new joint coach Sam Boake in a fine display, Liam Rix who was in everything and a great start to first gamer James Flack who proved he can hold his own in the senior grade.

An undermanned ressies team played out a gutsy game of footy. Better players on the day were the old stagers Jason O’Brien, Terry Loveridge, Ben Love in his first game for the club Aaron Hughes, Casey Wandel and Josh McQuinn who had a good game raking in his fair portion of the incentive money.

The U/18’s were outclassed by a good Imps unit. Our boys tried hard and just need to gel with each other a little more and they will reap the rewards of the great preseason they have put in. better players were Benn Henderson, Jack Stanley, Josh Pike, Michael Dimasi and new players Damien Ford and Josh Probert

We held a games night and Spit roast after the game last week. All who attended had a great evening and we must thank the girls for the big effort they put in arranging the night. A big thanks to Lauren and her Pop, Brian who cooked the roasts, Michelle and Sophie for their efforts.

The $100 draw is being held on round 5 after the Game against mildura. Tickets are now available with a first prize of $4000, $750 for second and $250 for third. Food and drinks are included in the ticket price and will be available throughout the draw. We sold all tickets quickly last year so contact, Peter Hahn 0427 291884 or Lauren Gray at the club to organize yours.

Life Members, here is a date to remember, Sunday the 26th of April, we are playing Robinval at the Kennel and will be holding a luncheon for all Life Members. There are a number of recent inductees who have not been presented their life member medallions who will be presented theirs on this day. The cost will be $10 per person and the lunch will start at 12.30.

The Netballers had a sensational win in the A grade over the highly rated Imperials girls with Ash healy and Michelle Barry getting the votes. A good win in the C grade with the best players being Deb O’Brien and Brenda Evans. The B grade lost with Sophie Cook and Bec Kelly getting the votes. The Under 17’s lost their first up encounter with the best being Emma Stanbridge and Steph Leake

Our highlighted Sponsor this week is Wagners Butchers, a big Thank you to Simon and Maria for their support. Present your membership card to get a discount on already well priced meat. They are on the corner of 7th st. and San Mateo Ave.

South Mildura Football Netball Club would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and existing players, committee, supporters, netballers and their respective partners and families. In 2009 South’s executive committee consists of Peter Hahn taking over as President, Shane Gathercole as Vice President, Graeme Polkinghorne as Treasurer and new to the executive Lauren Gray taking on the arduous role of secretary. Together with 8 other representatives on the general committee the doggies are looking strong behind the scenes.

SMFNC has re-appointed Trevor Ryan to the senior coaching position and he is ably assisted by new signing Sam Boake. Andrew Rix will hold the helm with the reserves and Brad Thomas will take control of the U/18’s. We wish them and their families a warm welcome and successful season.

The netball girls have been putting in countless hours over recent weeks to organise teams for 2009.  Numbers are good and a number of new faces will take to the court for the first time along and along with plenty of juniors the signs are good for the future. Council will commence building a Plexipave court soon and should be ready for play in mid May. Good luck girls

Tonight after the game we will be having a spit roast tea at the Kennel. This will coincide with a fun night of activities for all the family. $10 each for tea. We must thank Lauren’s pop for the donation and cooking of the two sheep and Lauren and the girls for the hard work they have put in. Lets support their hard work and make it a successful night.

This week’s sponsor is James Transport Australia. South would like to take this opportunity to thank Greg and Karen for their ongoing commitment to the Doggies, so all supporters who are requiring freight services please give them a call on 0350 210310 to arrange your dispatches.
