BASKETBALL  B.L.A.S.T.™ 6eleven
Basketball FUNdamentals

Our original BASKETBALL B.L.A.S.T.™ 6eleven development program delivers non-competitive FUNdamental Basketball training to lower age unskilled players. The 10 week program is conducted by our Club at our clubhouse to prepare newer players aged 6 to 11 for competitive basketball games. The program is run in Term 1 to prepare players for the Brisbane Basketball Inc (BBI) Championship season. A new induction in Term 3 prepares players for BBI's Summer Recreation season.

Our B.L.A.S.T.™ 6eleven program:

  • is run for two hours on Saturdays;
  • concludes at the Easter and September school holidays;
  • focuses on basketball skills development and games in the one session; and
  • introduces players to FUNdamental basketball drills, skills, terms and game rules to develop their skills and understanding of the game.

Our B.L.A.S.T.™ 6eleven program is co-ordinated by Tom Coogan (contact M 0439 747 328 W 3350 3599) who has designed and delivered previous Club skills training weekends. The program has been designed by Tom with assistance from primary school teachers Wendy Calvert and Jan West. Coaching assistance is provided by our senior and older age players.

Numbers are strictly limited to ensure maximum outcomes for attendees and more individual coaching attention.

In addition to receiving their own basketball and B.L.A.S.T.™ muscle shirt, attendees at our B.L.A.S.T.™ 6eleven program will receive a reference folder which includes a glossary of terms to assist them (and their parents) in understanding some of the basketball jargon, special home activities and monitoring, our own Dragons challenges to attempt throughout the program, and a weekly reference sheet containing drills, tips and our "Rule Of The Week".

B.L.A.S.T.™ 6eleven costs are detailed in our Fees & Charges link and comprise:

Extension to B.L.A.S.T.™

Delivery of an extension of our B.L.A.S.T.™ program will commence in the near future. After seeing the benefit of basic skills training in our younger players, our B.L.A.S.T.™ concept will be applied across a raft of skills which will support coaches by developing identified skill requirements in players of all ages. These will be in areas such as layups, defense, ball movement, shooting etc.

This extension of B.L.A.S.T.™ will provide all players with the opportunity to develop their basic skills away from their normal coaching regime giving coaches a greater ability to focus on team skills. It will also allow those players wanting to further develop their skills the opportunity to do so with particular specializations and, ultimately, to be recognized publicly as having achieved a certain level of competency.

B.L.A.S.T.™ is a Trademark of North Brisbane Basketball Assn Inc. for our Junior Basketball skills development program.
