Falcons Basketballers In Action Over The Holidays

While most of us are having a well deserved break over the Winter Holidays, many of our Falcons Basketballers are still playing basketball at the highest levels.

In the Queensland Basketball League Brisbane Capitals Women's Team Leeara Creet & Emily Perry are representing Falcons in the Second Tier competition below the Women's National League. Brisbane currently sits in 6th spot with 7 wins and 5 losses. Leeara is currently the third highest scorer with 9pts per game along with 4 rebounds per game. Leeara has recently returned from her first full playing season with Newberry College in the United States where they made the NCAA Division II tournament.

In the Southern Development League Brisbane Capitals Women's Team, a host of Falcons players are playing well. Taylor Christensen, Rae Parker, Brooke Hepburn, Kirsty Flach, Emily Perry are flying the flag for Falcons along with the Captain of the team Calia Hanks. This is a great example of how strong our Women's program is with 6 players involved in this team.

The D-League team currently sits in 3rd place with a record of 6 wins and 2 losses with 5 Falcons girls in the top 10 scorers for the team and Calia Hanks in the Top 10 scorers for the competition across all teams.

If you want to see these ladies in action here are the upcoming games for each team at Auchenflower Stadium.

Southern D-League Brisbane Capitals Women's Team

If this wasn't enough for the Falcons girls to do over the holidays they continue their journey in the Greater Brisbane League competition which is 2 weeks away from the Finals.

The Women's GBL Gold team currently sits atop the table with a record of 12 wins & 1 loss and will head into the finals in 2 weeks as the top ranked team and a win in the first week of the Semi-Finals on Wednesday July 14 will give them direct passage into the Grand Final. This is only the second year Falcons have been involved in the Women's GBL Gold competition after 3 years contesting the U23 Women's GBL Division.

The Women's GBL Silver team currently sits in 3rd place with a record of 6 wins & 6 losses and will head into the finals through the Elimination Semi-Final on Wednesday July 14 against an opponent yet to be determined.

After three premiership years (2007-2009) dominating the U23 GBL Women's Division in the first three years Falcons were involved, we moved into the Gold (2009-2010) & Silver (2010) GBL Divisions with great success. The greatest attribute about the Falcons teams is that the majority of girls involved have been with West Brisbane for at least 5 years each, showing that the club is built on a solid ground of loyalty & commitment from and to the great players of West Brisbane Falcons.
