Blades Home Page 2012 Competition News It's been a fantastic start to 2012 at the Blades Junior Basketball Club, based at Burleigh Heads.
We've welcomed back many of our members from last year, and also signed up younger siblings who want to be part of the friendliest basketball team on the Gold Coast.
It's also been delightful to welcome brand new families to our Club. This is who we are and what we do....... We participate with other Gold Coast Junior Basketball clubs and play weekly games in two seasons of competition from March to December at indoor venues.
We train on Wednesday afternoon/nights at the Marymount College stadium. We play in weekly competition games at other venues, usually at Carrara and Tallebudgera.
The Under 13's, Under 15's and Under 17's play on Friday nights. The Under 11's and Under 9's play on Saturday mornings.
Basketball is a fantastic opportunity for your son or daughter to be involved in a team sport for fun and fitness. As our sport spans most of the year and isn't affected by weather, it represents good value for money if you are considering costs!
We run our Club with the generous support of volunteers who believe in creating positive opportunities for young players.
2012 Registration
We've completed our Registration Sign-On events but there is still an opportunity to register in some age group categories at our training sessions. Our training schedule is subject to change for the next few weeks, so please contact us via email on bladesbasketball@hotmail.com or contact Tanya Irwin on 0434 512 440 for information about late registrations.
We have some room for more players in the youngest and oldest age group; Under 9, Under 11 and Under 17. You will need to complete the two registration forms, one for our Club and one for the Gold Coast City Regional Basketball Association (go to the FORMS section of our website) and bring them with you, along with payment. New players to our Club must also bring a copy of their Birth Certificate. Also note that this year, we are requiring you to read and sign a "Parent and Player Agreement", which is also available in our FORMS section of our website.
Volunteers Wanted for 2012
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED URGENTLY!!!! We operate a not-for-profit organisation and we can only exist with the supported of our members. Volunteering is a great way to get to know your own child better, make new friends and share in the fun of the game. We urgently need volunteers for the following roles: Coaches for the UNDER 13 Boys Managers for a few teams You DO NOT need to have a background in basketball to coach or manage. The only thing you need is a Blue Card (Authority to Work With Children - see our "Forms" section), availability for training and games, patience and very importantly, positive communication skills.
As a parent, you are also expected to do scorebench duties at weekly games. There are workshops and plenty of support available so you can learn this skill.
Our Club Executive roles are also up for grabs this year. If you are interested in the role of President, Vice-President, Treasurer or Secretary, please let us know. The current people in those roles are struggling with work commitments and having as many as 3 children in each family to get to training and games, some of which are at Representative level played in other parts of Queensland. These people would like to focus on other roles in the Club, such as fundraising and coaching but they are already stretched for time. Please help your child's Club. You will receive support and guidance in your new role from the out-going Executive members. Volunteer community work looks good on your resume when you are applying for work. But most importantly, your kids will be very proud of your involvement in their sporting life.
