Our Foundation Years 1984 - 1986
The East Malvern Junior Football Club (EMJC), also know as the East Malvern Knights, was originally part of the East Malvern Football Club (the Blue Knights), which was formed in 1927. The junior teams played within the overall structure of the club, fielding teams from the U9 – U14’s. To give the junior teams greater representation, a Junior Committee was formed late in 1984 for the start of the 1985 season. However in 1985, EMFC folded due to financial difficulties and after 57 years ceased to play any more games. The future for the Junior teams looked very bleak.
The first meeting of the new EMJFC Committee was held on 17th March 1986. EMJFC was incorporated on the 2nd July 1986. A new Committee & club administration was formed and four junior teams were entered into the WJFA. Peter Duncan was elected the first EMJFC President and the coaches were U9 Coach John Liddell, U10 Daryl Dart, U11 Roland Betheras, U13 John Furniss.
Following the cessation of the WJFA at the end of the 2008 season, the Knights now field all teams in the Moorabbin Saints Junior Football League from Under 9's through to Colts and is part of AFL Victoria. The EMJFC plays in the MSJFL while the Youth Girls play in the Yarra Junior Football League.
The Knights is conducted on a volunteer basis by parents and friends of the Club. Home games for all teams are played at Lucas Reserve, Dunlop Street, East Malvern, adjacent to Darling Station. Other grounds include Basil Reserve, Stanley Grose Reserve & Gardiner Reserve which is situated adjacent Gardiner Station.
Ground facilities at Lucas Reserve are shared with the Tooronga/Malvern Football Club (Seniors) and the Tooronga/Malvern Cricket Club who together form the Tooronga/Malvern Sports Club.
In 2009 the Knights consisted of 17 sides from U/9's to Colts while in 2010, the Knights comprised over 500 playing members, 400 social club members.
In season 2011, the Knights celebrated 25 years as a Club & coincidently fielded the highest number teams comprising 23 boys teams & 1 Youth Girls team, a record 24 teams. Season 2011 also broke a new record with 6 U9 teams (6) being fielded.
