OBJECTIVES
On a best endeavours basis select teams of a similar ability within the same age group.
To provide the opportunity for players to play football in different teams each year .
To fairly roster and rotate members of teams in selection to represent the Club in games.
REGISTRATION
To play for East Malvern Junior Football Club (EMJFC), all players must first be registered with the South Metro Junior Football League (for further details on registration, please refer to the 'REGISTRATION' tab on the above menu bar).
The Club must receive all player registrations AND subscriptions, as determined by the Committee, prior to season commencement.
The Committee has the right to refuse registration of any player.
Players will register for their appropriate age group.
Players will register with the appropriate age group rather than with a specific team.
As soon as possible following registration day, the number of teams to be fielded in each age group will be determined. If there are sufficient registered players to form more than one team in any age group, the Committee, will determine the composition of the playing list for each team.
PRIORITY OF SELECTION
Players who have registered with the Club on or before Registration Day will have priority in selection.
If less than the optimum number of players to form one or more teams has registered in a particular age group on or before Registration Day, the Committee will determine a date when selection will be finalised. This date must be at least one week prior to the commencement of home and away games. Priority of selection will be first given to those players who registered on or before Registration Day.
AGE OF PLAYERS
Each player must play in his or her appropriate age group.
No player may play more than one year out of his or her age group unless otherwise approved by the Executive Committee.
The date for the determination of age is 31st December in the year preceding the season in question.
FOR UNDER 9 TEAMS
No player less than 7 years of age as at 1 January, will be selected to be a member of the team.
Players who represented the Club when 7 years of age will play a subsequent season in Under 9.
SELECTION OF TEAMS
Selection of teams shall be completed as follows;
- For all age groups (U9 to U12 Inclusive), all registrants will be allocated to teams in their age group by the Committee.
- For Under 13 & above, refer to the Club's Grading Policy.
The following process is designed to support the EMJFC policy on Team Selection. The desired outcome is:
- Teams in same age group being of similar ability;
- Players having the opportunity to play with a least one other player from their school;
- The composition of teams being different from year to year to give players the opportunity to play football with others from their own school and players from different schools;
- Players and parents encouraged to establish new connections.
The process will commence after sufficient player registrations have been received and before teams are finalised for the upcoming season
.
The Executive Committee will make all team selections. Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers are not responsible for team selection however, the Executive Committee may seek their respective input from time to time.
The Executive Committee reserves the right of final player allocation to all EMJFC teams.
ROSTER SYSTEM
Where a team has numbers of financial and registered players, that is over the proposed optimum for a team, then as soon as is practicable after receiving the draw, the Coach will prepare a game roster. The roster will record the players who are to be selected to play in particular home and away games for the balance of the season. A copy of this roster will be given to each member of the team.
As far as is practicable, all players in a team will be selected to play in an equal number of home and away games during the season. The roster must accord with this requirement. This clause does not apply to the graded teams.
Players who will not be available to play for the team in any round of the home and away season are encouraged to advise the Coach before the preparation of the roster and the Coach will take this advice into account in preparing the roster.
In the event that a player is unable to play for the team when rostered to play, it is the responsibility of that player to advise the Coach as soon as practicable. The Coach may select any other member of the team to replace the unavailable player. There is no requirement on the Coach to make up games lost through unavailability after the roster has been finalised.
A player who is not rostered to play for a team in any game may not play for that team unless selected to play as a result of a rostered player being unavailable to play for whatever reason.
ROTATION
Coaches must ensure that players selected to play for a team in any home and away game are given a minimum playing time of 3 quarters unless the player is unable to attend for the full game are injured.
FINALS SERIES
Finals series include Lightning Premierships, Division 1 Finals, Division 2 Finals and any other finals series an EMJFC team competes in.
Should a team make the finals series, all players eligible to represent the team (ie having met any minimum game or other requirements of the EMJFC or the relevant Association) shall be selected, unless such selection contravenes any maximum limit on player numbers, as required by the relevant Association, in which case Coaches shall select players having regard to ability, team harmony and balance.
If a rostered and/or rotation system has applied during the season it would not apply during the finals series provided that all players should receive at one full quarter of game time.
FEMALE PLAYERS
In accordance with AFL Victoria policy, females may play for the Club up to and including U14.
