National Intensive Training Program
“In the month of August 288 athletes took part in a number of trials for the 2012/13 WA National Intensive Training Pro-gram. After an extensive review headed by the new High Performance Manager Brett Coxsedge the final selections for this year’s program were made. The final squad, made up of men and women includes a total of 66 athletes from both metropolitan and country regions.
Basketball WA would like to congratulate those athletes selected to the 2012/13 WA National Intensive Training Program and look forward to working with these promising athletes this year.
WHAT IS BASKETBALL AUSTRALIA’S NATIONAL INTENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM?
o Basketball Australia’s National Intensive Training Program (NITP) is a model for players & coaches for teaching individual and team fundamentals and also presents aspects of sports science and medicine to become a high level player and coach
oThe NITP is the key component of Basketball Australia’s national player and coach identification and development strategy
o Basketball Australia’s NITP was established because of an identified need for a more systematic, thorough and unified national approach to identify and develop outstanding junior basketballers in every State and Territory in Australia.
oIt was identified that a network of coaches be established and continuing development of this network of coaches be undertaken to ensure the thorough and contemporary delivery of the technical program to the athletes
o Internationally, the NITP is recognised as one of the best junior development programs in the world. Spain, Croatia, France, New Zealand, USA, Sweden, have displayed interest in the program
