Basketball Australia, Knox and Kilsyth Basketball Associations are preparing for a major Referee Development Camp for December 2012.
The camp is to be held in conjunction with the Australian Schools Championships at the State Basketball Centre, Knox and Kilsyth basketball stadiums. Victoria from the 2nd to 7th December 2012.
This camp will be known as the “2012 Zebra Tour” which will commence on Sunday 2nd December and will conclude on Friday evening 7th December 2012.
The tournament will involve refereeing the non championships divisions of the Australian Schools Championships, with experienced referee coaches providing feedback and coaching as required, along with formalised educational sessions.
This is a fantastic opportunity for referees to develop their skills and meet other referees in a friendly, fun and exciting camp style environment.
The objective of the Development Camp is to provide unique education and training for developing referees and combining this with hands on experiences and coaching while officiating quality standard games in the Australian Schools Championships.
The program will involve formal theoretical education sessions all day Sunday, and then follow up with practical expert coaching during games conducted at the tournament from Monday to Friday.
The camp commences 10.00am Sunday 2nd December and the event concludes Friday 7th December. Travel will need to be arranged to fit these time frames.
Game fees are not paid to individual referees but are inputted towards accommodation and internal travel costs.

For the first time two separate packages have been offered for those who wish to accommodate in the camp full time and those who wish to stay at their own residence during the tournament.
For full lodging the cost of the camp will be $400 which will include accommodation from Sunday through till Friday, transportation, referee shirt, referee evaluation booklet, referee camp and all meals. A separate price is offered for local referees but they can choose to stay in the accommodation full time if they wish.
The costs for the local referees is $150 which will include accommodation and dinner for Monday night, Tuesday breakfast, referee shirt, referee evaluation booklet, referee camp and lunch Monday through to Friday.
All officials will have to organize their own transport to and from the championship and officials who reside outside the state of Victoria will have to organise their own flights to Tullamarine. Ground transport to and from the airport will be the responsibility of the individuals but Knox and Kilsyth Basketball Association are looking at arranging to hire a bus for a pickup from Melbourne airport at 9:00am on Sunday 2nd December 2012.
