Congratulations to Eleanor Duff - 2012 Scoretable Official of the Year
Eleanor started scoring in 2003 and has just completed her tenth year as an official. During her time she has scored for various SBL Clubs, as well as National Basketball League, Women’s National Basketball League, Wheelchair National League and assisted with National Championships.
As Eleanor put it in the recent Scoretable Newsletter from BWA:
“I became involved with basketball when my children took up the sport at a very early age. Their fervour for basketball was contagious and it wasn’t long before I decided to do more than being a spectator and get actively involved with this wonderful sport. During my time as a member on the scoretable I have met many wonderful people and made many precious friends whose encouragement and advice have been of tremendous help to me in doing the best I can for the game.”
SBL GRAND FINAL APPOINTMENTS:
Congratulations to all the appointees for the SBL Grand Finals and in particular a special congratulations to Kevin McLaughlin who continues to support and coordinate the scoretable officials for East Perth SBL teams as well as provide training to the Parents in the East Perth District on scoring. Kevin has just completed his 21st year as a scoretable official which is a remarkable effort. Well Done Kevin.
SCORETABLE OFFICIAL TRAINING:
East Perth District Basketball Association encourages all parents to learn more about what is involved in being a scorer particularly at the Western Australia Basketball League (WABL) where your involvement will be greatly appreciated by the club and the children who play.
The following dates have already been diarized by Basketball WA:
Scoretable Courses 2013-
Level 2 at WABC 6 March 6pm
Level 3 at WABC 5 March 6pm
Level 4 and Coordinators update 7 March 6pm
Rules refresher 2 March 2pm and 13 March 6pm
In the new year East Perth District Basketball Association will be looking to put on an introductory and level 1 sessions on scoring for those parents wishing to understand the fundamentals involved.
BWA Scoretable Officials will also be planning to target WABL to get more shot clock operators qualified. In that respect East Perth encourages any parent to qualify as a shot clock operator as they are always very hard to find on Sunday, yet they are a requirement for all Under 14, 16 and 18’s that play on Court 1. To become a WABL shot clock official, the person must attend the level 2 course and complete the theory exam during the season. They must sit with someone for each game and operate the shot clock under supervision which the supervisor mark offs off as support for completing the practical aspects of a shot clock operator.
