Match Report - 8th-14th of October 2012

Defending Ovens & Murray A3 Bowls champions Beechworth have begun there premiership defences with an 82 to 75 shot loss to St James on Saturday.

The promoted A4 champions won two rinks with N. Henson team defeating C. Sunderland team 29-16 and H. Smith team defeating T. Stockdale team 21-17. Beechworth won the other two rinks with the team of W. Page(s), P. Keogh, B. Walch and G. Smart defeating R. Bruce team 21-15 and the team of I. Pritchard(s), R. Robinson, D. Bright and T. Bright winning 21-17 over S. Ralph team. The result means that St James takes 14 of the 18 points and the other 4 points go to Beechworth. Beechworth will now take on Wodonga this Saturday, who had a great win over Bright 97-83 in Bright. Beechworth won both their encounters last season and have not loss to Wodonga since early 2010.

Beechworth B3 team kicked off their season with a 83 to 81 shot loss to Wodonga. The team won 2 of the 3 rinks with the team of L. Smart(s), G. Cruchett, B, Gazzola and R. Saunders winning 30-26 over D. Taylor team. G. Lockwood team with C. Leentjes, T. Thompson and R. Holmes won by one shot 21-20. However I. Sekulic team loss 30-37 to G. Lowlett team. They will now take on Bright who defeated Ovens 71-60 on the weekend.

Beechworth C1 team also started their season with a loss to Yackandandah 49 to 41 shot. G. Sinclair team of I. Murray, B. Hoebert and I. Begnone winning 24-21 over N. Barton team, but K. McIntosh team when down 17-28 to R. Bullivant team. The team will now travel to Chiltern who defeated Benalla 53-47.

Beechworth midweek team will play Yarrawonga/Mulwala Golf Club Resort this week and be looking to continue their form after their huge 131-38 win over Corowa Services last week. The Win put them in fourth after 2 rounds and gives them an 81 shot advantage which could make a different at the end of the season.

On October 21st, it Try Bowls Day at the Beechworth Bowls Club at 10am. So if you are free, come down and have a great day trying this great sport. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, lawn bowls is one of the only sports that can be played by anyone at any age. All you have to bring is yourself or your family or friends as everything else you need will be supply by the club.
