Match Report - 3rd-9th of (Teams Updated)

Beechworth A3 team have return to their best with their 101 to 80 shot win over Wodonga in the Ovens & Murray Bowls Pennant Season.

 

After their 36 shot loss to Wodonga earlier in the season, Beechworth played one of their best games of the season to win three rinks. The team of I. Soulsby (s), P. Keogh, S. Kelly and B. Gazzola were the big winners with a 29-17 shot win over G. Brown team. The team of C. Sunderland (s), W. Page, T. Bright and S. Gardner had a great 26-15 shot win over G. Porter team, bouncing back after their 17 shot loss last week. The team of B. Fitzpatrick (s), R. Bayliss, I. Pritchard and B. Walch also won with their 24-22 shot win over G. King team. However T. Stockdale team when down 22-26 to give Beechworth sixteen of the possible eighteen points to keep them third on the ladder. Beechworth will now play Yarrawonga, who are only two points away from Beechworth on the ladder, after their 101-98 shot win over St James.

 

Beechworth B3 team have had a close three shot loss to Bright on the weekend. In the 68-71 shot loss, Beechworth did win two of the three rinks with the team of L. Smart (s), G. Cruchett, J. Kelly and R. Saunders been the best team with a 28-19 shot win over T. Barker team. The team of C. Leentjes (s), R. Howard, S. Cameron and G. Smart won the other rink with their 23-16 shot win over D. Sellick team. However I. Sekulic team had a shocking day and ended up going down 17-36 to D. Kupfella team. The result leaves Beechworth still third on the ladder and will now travel to Ovens, who will be coming off a great 95-71 shot win over Wangaratta.

 

Beechworth C1 team have had a very close contest against Wodonga but ended up losing 48-51 on the weekend. Beechworth did win one rink with the team of R. Holmes (s), J. Deuis, B. Hoebert and M. Gardner winning 32-18 over L. Cole team. However G. Sinclair team when down 16-33 to leave Beechworth with just two points, leaving them last on the ladder. Beechworth will now play Wangaratta who had a close five shot loss to Benalla last week.

 

Beechworth Midweek team had a huge win over Myrtleford last week and are now looking for payback against Club Mulwala this week, one of only two teams to defeat Beechworth this season. Beechworth won all three rinks in their 106 to 48 shot win over Myrtleford, giving them all fourteen points to keep them second on the ladder. Club Mulwala will be coming off a 67 to 93 shot loss to Corowa Services last week.

 

Last Sunday, the ladies club singles final was played between Joan Chambeyron and Chris Leentjes. In a close game, Chris had a better start, leading 13-6 after 13 ends before Joan won eleven of the next fourteen ends to lead 22-20. Chris won the next two ends to lead 23-22 before Joan ended up winning 25 to 23 with three shots on the last end to win. Joan will now represent Beechworth at the champion of champions later in the season.
