Beechworth A3 team have continued their finals push after defeating Yarrawonga / Mulwala Golf Club Resort by 97 to 87 shots in the Ovens & Murray Bowls Pennant Season.
Beechworth won only one rink with the team of W. Page (s), R. Robinson, T. Bright and S. Gardner been the big winners with their 40-15 shot win over G. Hart team. The team of T. Stockdale (s), K. Waring, D. Bright and T. Chambeyron had a close 20-24 shot loss to P. Lidgerwood team. The team of B. Fitzpatrick (s), C. Sunderland, R. Howard and B. Walch also had a close 23-28 shot loss to B. Handley team. The team of I. Soulsby (s), P. Keogh, S. Kelly and B. Gazzola had a low scoring 14-20 shot loss to J. Fairweather team. The result gives Beechworth twelve points to keep them fourth on the ladder with the last round of the season been this weekend. With all teams from third to sixth on the ladder still able to make the final four, Beechworth must defeat Wangaratta this week to book a place in the finals.
Beechworth B3 team have moved to the top of the ladder with their 70 to 54 shot win over Wodonga on the weekend. Beechworth won two of the three rinks with the team of I. Sekulic (s), M. Howes, S. Cameron and P. Henderson defeating M. Potter team 34-17. The team of T. Thompson (s), G. Crutchett, C. Oliver and R. Saunders had a close 22-18 shot win over E. Thompson team. The team of C. Leentjes (s), J. Deuis, J. Chambeyron and M. Gardner also had a close game but ended up losing 14-19 over C. Howlett team. With only six points covering Beechworth, Wangaratta and Wodonga at the top of the ladder, Beechworth must defeat Bright to finish on top of the ladder.
Beechworth C1 team have had only their third win of the season with their 65 to 42 shot win over Benalla. Beechworth won both rinks with the team of R. Holmes (s), G. Bailey, B. Hoebert and K. Sisson winning 33-22 over E. Brewer team. The team of K. McIntosh, G, Sinclair, I. Murray and I. Begnone were looking unlikely to win after been 9-18 shots down early but came back to win 22-20 over M. Tilbury team. The result keeps them sixth on the ladder but unable to qualify for the finals. They will take on Wodonga next week in their final game of the season.
Beechworth Midweek Pennant team has finished their home and away season in second place and will now take on Ovens in the Qualifying final, with the winner to book a place in the grand final. Beechworth had to play two games last week with their first game resulting in a 66-61 shot win over Yarrawonga on Tuesday to book their top two spot. Their final game was not the way they wanted to end the home and away season with their 86-62 shot loss to Ovens. The Qualifying final between Beechworth and Ovens will take place at the Wodonga Bowls Club on The 5th of February.
Beechworth Men’s pair final was held on Thursday with P. Keogh and B. Walch taking on R. Howard and S. Gardner. The game started with R. Howard and S. Gardner getting off to a great start with a 6-0 lead before P. Keogh and B. Walch won twelve of the next fourteen ends to win 18-9 to become the 2012-13 champions. P. Keogh and B. Walch will now represent Beechworth at the pair’s champion of champions at the Wangaratta Bowls Club this week.
