Round 9
Vs. Phillip Island
at Terrill Park,
Saturday 1st June.
We hosted Yarram this weekend at Terrill Park and the weather turned on a pretty good day for us with sunshine for much of the day, very little wind and no real sign of rain what more could we ask for, well maybe four wins. The fourths boys knew that they would be up for tough day against fairly strong opponent. The first half saw our boys against a Yarram team that was desperate for the footy and keen to give our boys a good run for their money. At half time Coach McGannon took the leadership group aside and asked them to lift and to take the game by the scruff of the neck. This even though we had the lead 6 goals to one. The boys ended up winning by 12 goals and we kept Yarram goalless in the second half. After the game Coach McGannon wasn’t particularly happy and told the boys they won the game on sheer ability rather than good desperate to win team footy. Best players were Darby, Toby, Jesse, Kurt and Johnny Bowron with goal kickers being Jesse 4, Chumpy and Gus 2 each and singles to Bailey, Brad and Ethan. Steven Vuillermin took the reigns of the thirds this week coaching the guys to a very good 101 point win after Coach Carratello had his season cut short. The boys got off to a great start kicking seven goals in the first quarter and they never looked back all day. With Gordo, Dirk, Jack and Jayden working well in the middle we were getting first use of the ball. Tyler Shanahan was marking well and booted five for the game. Kienen Hemming also playing well chipped in with three goals. The backline repelled any attempts by Yarram to go forward and kept them to one point all day. Jayden O'Sullivan was in everything and was best on ground. Other award winners were Tyler, Jack, Dirk, Tye and Liam and Goal kickers were Tyler 5, Keinen 3, Aden and Jake 2 each and singles to Luke and Sean. The Reserves also had a great win by 68 points and showed that they can play some very good footy. A really strong first half set the tone for the day for these guys and we now move into seventh position on the ladder being the best side outside the Top 6. Another fantastic sight in the match was the return of Matty Watkins to the field for his first game of the season after pre-season surgery, and what a return it was with a best a field performance and 7 goals in a big win. Other to play well were JD, Rhys Bohn, Brighty, Twiggy and Micky D. Goal kickers were Matty 7, JD, Rundle and Twiggy 2 each and singles to Hammo, Brighty, Cocky, Steve K and Big Ryan Nicoll. The seniors were without Trav this week who got a rest after pulling up a little sore the week before also JL was a late withdrawal with the flu, they did get Rhys and Pricey back, both returning from injury. The boys dominated this match and in the end run out massive 90 point winners effectively shutting the door on any chance Yarram had on making the finals in 2012. Some not so good news however with Turk, Jages and Cal all finishing the game on the bench being iced up with a cloud over next weekend’s match against IK. The Coach very happy with the way the boys played and with only one match left in the home and away rounds asked his boys to be smart and do the work required at this end of the season. Best players were Tommy G, Laurie, Rouds, Weapon, Jordan and Pratty. Goal kickers were Laurie with 9, Lachie Park 3, 2 each to Cyril and Weapon and singles to Azza, Pricey, Dickie and Jordan. Saturday night was our goods and services auction and a big turnout enjoyed and beautiful three course meal followed by an entertaining night of bidding on the 80 odd items up for grabs. Sunday was the reverse draw and again a good day had by all in attendance with the top prize being taken off by Lachie Park, congratulations mate. Next week is the final home and away game for season 2012 and we head off down the highway to Inverloch where we take on IK on a ground that hasn’t been to kind to us in recent times. See you At the Footy on Saturday.
