The Lake Wendouree Football Netball Club was formed in 1995 as a result of a merge of the former Wendouree FC and YCW FC at then end of 1994 Season.
Since establishment and affiliation with the Ballarat Football League we have developed oursleves as a strong and consistent competitor in football and netball in all levels.
Our Lakers juniors enjoy the benefit and support of our club. We have a fantastic group of junior coaches helping boys grow into good young men with the Lakers spirit.
Our juniors start at under 10s and finish at Under 18 level before they move on to the Senior Ranks.
We have great strength in our netball. Lakers have always competed well on the Netball court. 2007 saw our Senior coach & netball co-ordinator Sally McLean take out the Coach of the Year, and our Senior Netball team have taken out the BFL Senior premiership back to back in 2007/08.
The 2008 Season saw all Lakers senior teams in the finals, netball and football, with our senior netballers winning the flag for the second consecutive year. Our under 18 footballers reached the grandfinal, and were unlucky not to take out the flag, being beaten on the day by East/Point. Our Senior footballers played a big part in the finals and were unlucky not to play off. The highlight of the season, beating Sunbury, at Sunbury for the first time (since the Lakers were formed), in the eleminiation final.
We like to think that we lead by example in our role within the community. In 2008 & 2009 we have entered teams into the Ballarat Come to Life Cycle classic, raising money for the Ballarat Cancer Reseach Centre. Our senior players are encouraged to help out at junior training and auskick and our club was proud to win the Merv & Mary Howard Award for the Best Club in the BFL for season 2008.
Over the last few years, the Lakers have recruited as well as any club in the competition. In 2009 we are pleased to see the return of our 2007 Best & Fairest winner Ben Taylor, who will be a huge plus to our on ball brigrade. Ben was only 18 when he won our best ad fairest and has been at the Roosters since, bringing along with him this year Robbie Gregg who is a dynamic forward/goal kicker who won the goal kicking for the Roosters in 2007. We have also signed Hayden Cartledge as join assistant and playing coach, as well as 3 or 4 more great young recruits who are sure to be senior players at the Lakers.
