Grants Funding

Ballan Recreation Reserve improvements

Ballan Football and Netball Club acknowledges the fantastic work undertaken by the Ballan Recreation Reserve Committee of Management with local and federal governments to secure funding for improvement to the playing surface.

Without the initial funding grant in November 2006 of $45,310 from the Federal Governments Community Water Grants program the realisation of having a year round playing surface suitable for all sporting activities.

This project was designed to save water at Ballan Recreation Reserve by installing rainwater tanks to collect water for irrigation. Once the renovations and extensions to the pavilion take place the amenities block will be upgraded by installing dual flush toilets, water saving shower heads and slow flow devices.

The playing surface irrigation system was also be upgraded by installing timers,

moisture sensors and evaporation controls. It is estimated that the project will save 25,500 litres of water per year.

Further funding was the secured in conjunction with the Moorabool Shire to access ground water and provide water storage for irrigation of the playing surface, the bowls greens and to provide drought relief for stock water as well as a supplementary firefighting water supply.

Once again this project highlights the benefits of community involvement in local projects that are of benefit to all who use the facilities.
