Milestones
Darren Bennett – 250 games
Darren “Benny” Bennett this week is only the 4th player ever to play 250 games for Corio and has been an outstanding loyal servant of our club and a dour defender for our Seniors and Reserves for many years. His gutsy never say die style of football has gained him many admirers over the yearssince beginning his Senior career in 1993 after playing in our U\18 agegroup. Benny won the Reserve Best and Fairest in 2002 and has Captained the reserves 4 years between 2002-2005 including the Championship season in 2004. Benny is also in his second year as a volunteer Coach from which he was Premiership Coach and again player in 2008. As a Coach and a clubman Benny is respected by everybody who knows him and the Corio Football and Netball Club, committee, players, and supporters would like to thank Darren for his loyalty to our Club and wish him all the very best for this fantastic milestone.
Robbie Walton – 150 games
Robbie played his first Senior game in 1994 after playing in our U\18 agegroup. After playing as a ruckman for most of his career he has also had stints as a CHF including in the seniors in the 2005 grand final team. Robbie was also a player in last years reserve premiership playing a great game in the ruck. Rob has been a great contributor on the field for many years but his greatest contribution to our club has been off the field being on the committee for the last 5 years with the last 3 as President. Robbie has also been a volunteer coach for our club coaching the Reserves in 2005 and 2006, the U-14’s in 2008 and kicking off the U-16’s this year .No-one works as hard a Robbie off the field and no-one puts in as many hours of volunteer work on top of, still being a player for our club. Robbies commitment on and off the field is an example to all of us, and the entire club would like to thank him for his commitment to our club and wish him all the best for this milestone.
Michael Baumann – 100 games
This week Bowy runs out for his 100th game for the club. Bowy has been playing for Corio on and off for over 15 years first playing in our Little League and U\14’s where he was captain and won the best and fairest in 1994. Bowy also was captain of the U-15’s in 1996 and won a league B&F in the U\18’s and was club R-Up B&F in 1999 where he was also captain of that grand final team. Through the years up and down the wings in the seniors Bowys speed and desperation where admired by all that watched him play and the club would like to wish him all the best for this milestone.

What a difference one quarter makes as one minute were thinking this could be the season over and next minute a 9 goal lead. Imagine what could happen if we play 4 quarters like that. Sitting 9th on the ladder and only 3 games off top makes it one strange season but the reality is if we keep winning anything is still possible. Lazer was great again doing his bone crunching tackles and all the one percenters that makes Lazer such a valuable player. Bazza continues his stellar season seeing him week in and week out a big contributor for the seniors. Lozza once again making the most of his chances getting amongst the best players once again. Rick playing well and getting a heap of touches is just what the side needs over the coming months. Leroy played well in the ruck and just about all over the ground as he gets another opportunity to play senior football. As usual Jason Huhn was in the best players after a making a speedy recovery from nasty facial injuries received last Sunday walking home from the reverse draw. Jason was attacked unprovoked by a footpath that came out of no-where!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reserves Vs Blue West at home Corio 20-12-132 to 2-7-19
Goals: Shaun Gundry 8, John Bartolo 4, Michael Baumann 2, Darren Bennett 2, Luke Bennett, Matthew Cullen, Trent Hogan, John Nelis
Best: Andrew Williams, Clint Eldredge, John Bartolo, John Nelis, Michael Baumann, Trent Hogan
The reserves just churns out another 6 best players but with a 18 victory there were very few, if any passengers. Wilber not hamstrung was back to his early season form picking up a stack of possies and setting up a heap of goals. Eldo and Johnny (4 goals) are both playing consistent football in the middle with great backup from a number of team mates. John Nelis played his first game in 6 years but wasted no time playing good football. Bowy and Trent showed a clean pair of heals up and down the wings and kicked goals as well. Mr Bean kicked a lazy goals which is no mean feat in any competition
U\18 Vs Inverleigh at home Corio 9-7-61 to 9-13-67
Goals: Harley Hunter 3, Dylan Taylor 2, Corey Burke, Daniel Scott, Chad Van Der Lee, Josh White
Best: Harley Hunter, Rhys Marshall, Daniel Lawerson, Corey Burke, Jacob Groot, Aaron Tucker
The U\18s just love close finishes but unfortunately went down by 6 points in their 4th last quarter game in a row. Harley snagged 3 goals and set up a couple others in another standout performance. Rhys and Daniel ran hard and tackled even harder playing well for their team. Corey and Jacob took some good marks for their team and proved an marking option for most of the game. Tucks was another player that the coaching staff were pleased with getting plenty of the ball.
U\16 V Portarlington at home Corio 13-19-97 to 3-2-20
Goals: Jesse Edwards 5, Jake Manning 3, Cody Shelley 2, Jack Wilson 2, Braydon Ward
Best: AJ Graham, Peter Abbott, Jesse Edwards, Dylan Otoole, Corey Otoole, James Jacobson
U\14 V St Albans at home Corio 18-12-120 to 3-3-21
Goals: Dale Jakupek 3, Ash Norman 3, Justin Saddington 3, BJ Otoole 2, Damian Fitzpatrick 2, Brent Ryan, Travis McGregor, Daniel Gieles, Cameron Emond, Sam Birchell
Best: Ash Norman, Kyle Connor Kent, Paul Oates, Justin Saddington, Dale Jakupek, James Anderson
