RD 4 vs SEA LAKE NANDALY TIGERS

 Seniors

Riding the wave of last week’s win, Ouyen came out firing on all cylinders. Knowing it was going to be a hard clash against last year’s premieres, Andy Jardine made point of a few key areas that the boys needed to focus on. In an exclusive interview after the game, Coach Jardine reiterated the strong message he had given his players hours before. “I knew it was going to be tough” Jardine said, “however, if we were all able to concentrate on beating our own opponent I knew the game would be ours.” “It wasn’t an easy game and I was just glad to see there were no passengers in a game like this.” It was clear to see that everyone had their roles and needed to stick to them if Ouyen had any chance of toppling Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers on their home turf. It was neck and neck the entire game. Intensity at the stoppages and tenacity at the ball ensured Ouyen were the victors at the final siren.

Awards: Top End Training – Peter Caldow, MFL – Dean Staunton, NAB (Ouyen) – Ben Mole, Nandaly Pub – Aron Morrish, Cropsmart – Alex Morrish, Pengelly Electrical – Tom Morrish

 Reserves

The Reserves made the trek down to Sea Lake to take on the top side and gave an excellent account of themselves. After conceding the first goal, we fought back through the relentless play of Ryan ‘Frothies’ Monaghan which resulted in goals to Nic ‘Vin Diesel’ Vine and a ¼ time lead. The next two quarters were an arm wrestle, and the back 6 did an excellent job of restricting the Tigers goal scoring; Jimmy Shaddock and Corbin ‘Beats’ Stacey creating a lot of drive from half back. Taking a 2 goal lead into the last quarter, the boys responded very well, kicking 3 goals in a row to swing the game in our favour at the final siren. Big bad bustling Barry Willox was excellent in the ruck all day, and the boys from the Under 16’s are improving every week.

Awards: Heenan’s Caltex – Leigh Willox, Patche Hotel – Nic Vine, Ouyen Club – James Shaddock, Shaddocks Freight – Ryan Monaghan, Ouyen Bakery – Nathan Mole, Elliott’s Rural Supplies – Lachlan Fishwick

 Under 16’s

It was a disappointing start to the day as our U16's were beaten by a determined Sea Lake Nandaly outfit. The Tigers got the jump on our boys leading us to the footy and showing more commitment to the contest. Jake Cresp in the Ruck and Bailey Pengelly playing on the ball and up forward were standouts for our boys. Their efforts kept us in the contest. However, with a 3 goal deficit at 3 quarter time it looked a big ask to claw our way back into the match. A rev up at the final break saw a response and our boys quickly booted three goals to pinch the lead. The young Tigers showed class and were able to steady; managing to regain the lead with a couple of minutes to go. Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers eventuated as the deserving winners on the day.
