Round 2

Today we travel up to Mirboo North and wish everyone involved the best of luck. Before the Easter break we hosted Yallourn Yallourn North for the first round of the season and we kicked it off brilliantly with all Football and Netball sides taking the points. Terrific result for the club and for big Walks in his 200th Senior game of football, well done big fella!!

Box's Seniors:

Welcome all to the 2009 season, our first game was a long time coming considering we started pre season way back on January 7th. We had a lot of new faces and not so new making their debuts for the club and the guys were keen to take some revenge on last years finals lost. With Walks playing his 200th  and a slight breeze the team got off to a super start kicking 11 goals to 2 in the 1st qtr. Things didn't go our way in the 2nd qtr and we allowed the bombers to come back into the game with us only kicking the 1 goal for the qtr. The midfield stood tall in the 3rd qtr giving us plenty of drive into our forward line, the forwards missing more than we converted. Young Crofty had been doing a great job holding the dangerous Phillips and the backline stood tall. The fizz went out of the game in the last qtr but not after new boy Matt Reid stepped in and kicked 4 for the qtr. Better players over the day were, Harliegh, Jules, Crofty, Walks, Hoppy and Phil.

Giddo's  Reserves:

A good first up effort with only 5 of last year's premiership team playing.  Most pleasing aspect of the game was how well we moved the ball out of the backline with all the youngsters backing themselves, showing their opposition a clean set of heels. We will only get stronger which will make selection harder, so the more who train the easier picking a team will be.

Trev's Thirds:

No game in the first round due to a bye. Should be raring to go today in what should be a ripper.

Gav's Fourths:

What a start to the new season, with our bad kicking the game was close for 4 quarters, it took a moment of magic from Luke Lowry in the final minute to win the game, well done Luke. Great to see so many new players at the club were still a couple short so get some mates down for a kick. Better players were Brandon, Tony, Eric, Ash and Luke Van.
