Today we have travelled to Newborough and wish everyone involved on and off the field and court the best of luck. Last weeks much anticipated home game against Thorpdale on Anzac day was a terrific spectacle for everyone involved and in attendance, We managed to win 3 out of 4 in the football with the fourths, reserves and seniors taking the points and all 6 netball sides winning in a fantastic effort by the girls.
Box's Seniors:
There was a lot of hype around Saturday's game, with the return of DM to the East, this time as Thorpdale's coach and playing on Anzac Day, probably the most important day on the calendar for the year. We expected the blues to come out hard in the first quarter and they did, Walks & Phil started the game well keeping us just in front at the first break. When the expected rain hit all skills went out the door and it was just a good old fashioned slug fest. We got on top in the second quarter and the boys played some great footy considering the conditions. Our backline gave us plenty of attack all night and with Walks having a great game up forward with 6 goals (I still think it was 5 ) and with plenty of support from Phil, Robbie and Eddie we managed to come away with a comfortable win in the end!
Giddo's Reserves:
Better game and better result last week against Thorpy. We started well and maintained pressure throughout the game to hold on for a needed win. Better players were Gibbo, Roger Henry, Rowan Pepper & Arthur Harrison.
Trev's Thirds:
The Thirds played kick to kick footy against a more determined outfit. Thorpdale went in leading at every break by two. The skill errors from our boys weren't pretty to watch although they did move the ball well in patches. Thorpdale forced the turn over's through midfield pressure and continually drove forward any way possible. Its games like these we need to capitalise on, so keep pushing on boys. Unfortunately Richo has broken his leg and has been outed for the season. We wish him all the best on his recovery.
Gav's Fourths:
The fourths played a great four quarter game, they ran the ball well and took there opportunities in front of goal. When they were challenged in the 2nd qtr the backline did a great job. Andy Maynard was best on ground kicking 4 goals from the centre. Other good players were Eric Semmler, Tim Mowat and Luke Van Dyke.
International Power Netball News:
15U: Morwell East 35 defeated Thorpdale 22. B.O.C. Sophie Kennedy. The girls played a well controlled game against a very good side. Hard work at training is starting to pay off.
17U: Morwell East 48 Defeated Thorpdale 22 B.O.C. Hayley Jergens. Once again a tough game that could have gone either way. A great job at W.D. by Hayley Jergens insured a well deserved win.
D grade: Morwell East 48 Defeated Thorpdale 19. B.O.C. Taylin Gourley. An excellent team game capped off by outstanding shooting by Taylin Gourley.
C grade: Morwell East 36 Defeated Thorpdale 28. B.O.C. Kirbie Knowles. Defensively the game will always be won and this was evident again today by good controlled defense by Kirbie and our fill-in Claire Lawrence. Captain Pam Hicks stood tall against great opposition.
B grade: Morwell East 49 Defeated Thorpdale 16.B.O.C. Kellie Gill. Even though the score was quite different, the game was a ripper. Both teams played excellent Netball at times. Kellie Gill once again excelled at W.A. Centre.
A grade: Morwell East 45 Defeated Thorpdale 39.B.O.C. Nicky Bowe. This game was very exciting and had everybody off their seats. Great last quarter saw us win with a 13 goal turn around. Dee capped off a dogged game with a great last quarter under terrible conditions.
