Round 5

Today we welcome the in form Yarragon sides to our Ronald Reserve nest and wish everyone involved the best of luck in what should be some close games in both the football and netball. Last week we returned home from Newborough with 7 wins and a draw from 10 games played, overall a great result for the club.

Box's Seniors:

Newborough at Newborough is never easy and after a tight first half that was proving to be the case. We went into the halftime break in front on the scoreboard but Newborough were playing good hard footy, not allowing us to win enough of the ball. In the second half we lifted in all areas and managed to finish the game of strongly coming away with a comfortable win in the end. Better players were Jules, Richey, Robbie and Buckers.

Giddo's Reserves:

Another good win last week against Newborough, China in his first game back had a sensational first quarter, but we were still down at half time. A second half revival led by Bobby Anderson and an inspirational handball from Cappy that resulted in goal enabled us to come away with a great win.

Trev's Thirds:

The thirds played a better style at the weekend against Newborough moving the ball well through the middle and attacking well in patches. The dogs tackling and pressure around the ground was excellent. Our backline pressure was good but needs to be consistent. A lot of our players need to be more determined, and work on being first to the footy. We now work towards a good game against Yarragon this week.

Gav's Fourths:

This was a great game to watch, even though were beaten the first half was some of the best junior footy I and the crowd had seen. We need to play four quarters, we do that and we’ll match the better sides. Shamus played a great game in the ruck with Brendan, Tim & Ash also playing well.

International Power Netball News:

15U: Morwell East 16 Drew with Newborough 16.  B.O.C. Darcy Robertson.  Another thrilling game played by our 15U. A big learning exercise for some of our younger brigade but we are slowly getting it together and playing some nice netball.  Great defense by Tiarne, Ellen and Darcy.

17U: Morwell East. 25 Defeated Newborough 17.  B.O.C. Jordan Byrne. A comfortable win by our 17's who once again didn't have their full team.  Once again our defense was superb, with Lexi and Jordan playing a well disciplined and controlled game.

D grade: Morwell East 49 defeated Newborough 17. B.O.C. Brooke Mills.  A very steady game by our girls enabled us to make every post a winner.  Brooke worked well at G.A. She talked well and encouraged all girls to work hard.  Another great game in defense by Alice and Captain Michelle.

C grade: Morwell East 40 Defeated Newborough 23.  B.O.C. Roxanne Shelton.  A well fought out game by our girls against good opposition.  Newboroughs height in defense mad e us work harder at getting the ball into the ring, but persistence paid off.  Skillful defense against strong opposition.

B grade: Morwell East 49 defeated Newborough 34. B.O.C. Abbie Buckley.  An undermanned B grade side but still managed a win against great opposition. Both ends were magnificent, but our Centre court led by Debbie and Abbie worked the ball in well to record a comfortable win.

A grade: Morwell East 48 defeated Newborough 28. B.O.C. Amanda Quail.  We are starting to work well together particularly going into the ring, nice goaling by Dee and Jo, assisted by excellent defense from Amanda and Nicky.

Thanks to Lisa for filling in again, and hope she is back on the track again soon.
