Round 8

Today we welcome Boolarra to our Ronald Reserve nest and wish everyone involved the best of luck. Last week we returned from Yinnar with 3 wins in the football and 6 wins in the netball, a terrific result for the club.

Box’s Seniors:

Anyone who watched our game saw a game of 2 halves. Our first half was probably our worst 2 qtrs for the year. Take nothing away from Yinnar, they played a great brand of footy and we were left to watch this all unfurl. The 2nd half saw the boys step up and take control of the game and to our credit we finished the game off extremely well. Everyone played a role in the 2nd half, Mick Higgins, Brendan “junior” Evans, Aaron Makepeace and Bruce Siddle were consistent performers all day.

Giddo’s Reserves:

Started the game well, relaxed in 2nd quarter letting Yinnar back in to the game. After half time despite spirited opposition we ran away with a 7 goal win with Big Steve Snr “Tickets“ Tobin kicking 10 in his first game for the year being well supported by Tim Holland and Chris Murphy in the ruck. It was good to see some old faces back in the side and we hope to get stronger as the season progresses.

Trev’s Thirds:

The 3rd's had a very impressive game at the weekend against Yinnar. We led at all breaks and never looked like giving Yinnar any avenues back into the game. Teamwork has been displayed in patches over recent weeks, this was to a new level on Saturday, no selfishness displayed, just clean disciplined footy. Shannon Maynard was solid when required down back and the on ballers worked hard all day. With Ryan Francis taking control in the ruck and the midfield dominating stoppages, it made easy work for forwards Shannon Winmar and Steve Tobin to take control down the business end. Well done and remain focused heading in to another MUST win game against Boolarra. Best: Shannon Winmar, Danny Matheson, Jacob Blair, Steve Tobin, Bobby Anderson, Shannon Maynard.

Parents are needed urgently to come forward and offer their services on game days, there are many roles to be filled and not enough help. A Team Manager and a Time Keeper would be a good start if anyone would like to offer.

Gav’s Fourths:

Well it’s fair to say we had an off day and Yinnar had a beauty. Let’s make it our one and only for the year, we need to play accountable team football, basic man on man and give 100% towards the contested ball.

Better players for the day were B. Francis, A. Chessum, L. Van Dyke and A. Maynard.

International Power Netball News:

Abig day of Netball against Yinnar saw us have some close wins and not so close wins. Some encouraging results especially in our 15U team with the girls having a win by six goals. Hard work at training is paying off with every girl doing their job convincingly. Centre court is moving along nicely, goalers are getting stronger by the week, and defensively we are becoming harder at the ball but keeping a cool head. B.O.C. 15U Tayla Watson.

17U was a very close game with the girls coming away with the points by 5 goals. Well done to our goalers, Teagan and Elise, who combined well together. The centre court led by Claire never gave their opponents an inch and defense was once again well drilled and strong, nice to have Taylor back who hasn't lost her touch at all. B.O.C. 17U Teagan Watson.

D, B, and A grades all recorded strong wins with all players working well out of defense and smoothly into goals. C grade was the close game of the day with the girls sneaking home by only 3 goals. More work is needed at training on certain areas, but to the girls credit they kept their heads and played controlled netball when needed.

B.O.C. for D grade was a Team Effort.

B.O.C. for C grade  - Kristen Smith.

B.O.C. for B grade - Alanna Zerek.

B.O.C. for A grade - Birthday girl, Kate French.

We have had some rotten injuries lately, we wish Lisa Barnes all the best with her achilles injury, and Claire Lawrence with her ankle. Speedy recovery girls.

Thank you to all our game day volunteers. To our valuable scorers, Debbie, Kerry and Rhonda thank you so much, to Geoff with the scoreboard at our home games, to Kellie Lawrence who does a great job with the stats each week, never complains, to our Umpires who put in every week.
