Round 10

Last week we travelled to Trafalgar for a very cold day of football and netball. Our juniors played well but were beaten by better teams on the day. All other football and netball teams came away with points. Today we are at George Bates Reserve enjoying the hospitality of YYN for the start of the second round for the season.

Box’s Seniors:          Travelling down to Trafalgar is one of the toughest road trips for the year and with them coming off a loss we knew it was going to be a tough contest. Our preparation during the week was good and I felt the group was really keen to get the win today.

The first half was a real arm wrestle with both teams throwing everything at the contest. The backline has had a fantastic year and continued this on Saturday, continually rebounding Traf’s forward line entries. After half time we really stepped up a cog and outscored Traf 10 goals to 1. It was a great team effort on the day and was a satisfying victory for all involved. Best: Mick Higgins, Bruce Siddle, Harliegh Aarons, Phil Pavey.

Giddo’s Reserves:          The reserves got off to a good start leading at each break, but were outscored in the final qtr. Lucky to come away with a draw, a disappointing result but some good promising signs for the rest of the season. Best: Arthur Harrison, Adam Duncan, Jamie Riseley, Kevin Hays, Hughie Pepper and John Pollutro.

Trev’s Thirds:           The boys took on what turned out to be an outstanding Trafalgar outfit at the weekend. We seemed to win the centre taps and 75% of centre clearances through Jesse Bowe's outstanding ruck work, only for our attack to be cut off as far forward as the half forward line, with the ball then moved with skill and precision to result in a goal for the hard working forwards of Traf. Our boys displayed discipline and gave it all till the final siren. Heads up, re-group and look towards our Mirboo Nth clash now. Best. Shannon. Winmar, Nathan Scott, Jewse Bowe, Brandon Williams, Danny Mathieson and Ash Hooton.  Goals: Steve Tobin 2, Ash Hooton 1.

Gav’s Fourths:         The fourths had some injuries during the week and were undermanned, but fought the game out well. Better players were Brandon Francis, Eric Semmler, Joel Sutton and Tony Helmuth. Goals to Brandon Frances, Andy Maynard and Blake Mills.

INTERNATIONAL POWER NETBALL NEWS

15U         Morwell East 32 defeated Trafalgar 22.      B.O.C. Lowarna Hood. Once again the girls played a good disciplined brand of Netball. Each girl now knows her job and they combined well to win by 10 goals. Tayla Watson and Sophie Kennedy both put in a great game in goals, Stephanie , Lowarna and Georgina put some excellent passes in and defensively the girls were strong all game.

17U         Morwell East 40 defeated Trafalgar 25.      B.O.C. Lexi Bowe. An enjoyable game to watch. Once again the game was dominated by strong goaling fed well by our midcourt, and of course our ever reliable defenders led today by Taylor Brouns were very hard to beat.

D Grade.  Morwell East 46 defeated Trafalgar 33.     B.O.C. Alice Hughes and Michelle Cini. Today's game was between the top two and the girls worked hard, especially in defence where they never gave their opponents an inch. Brooke Mills passing into goals was brilliant and left the opposition wondering how to stop them. Well done to all girls on a great effort.

C Grade.  Morwell East 45 defeated Trafalgar 21.     B.O.C. Emma-Lee Bostedt. Arguably their best game for the season. The girls put in a super effort, with all goalers combining well. Our defence led today by Emma-Lee was exquisite, never giving their opponents an inch.

B Grade.   Morwell East 43 defeated Trafalgar 27.     B.O.C. Lexi Bowe. The goaling combination was exceptionally strong today leading the way to another strong victory. Alanna's work throughout the mid court was outstanding, never letting up all game. B grade were a little short in numbers today, but were helped out by Jo Kappl's sister Sam. What a fill in! She was amazing, great to watch.

A Grade.   Morwell East 59 defeated Trafalgar 36.      B.O.C. Georgia Mackeown. Another great game played in good spirits. Positions were shared , which made for an enjoyable game.
