Today we have travelled up the Princes hwy to take on Trafalgar and look forward to some tough contests on both the field and court. A fortnight ago we took on Boolarra at home and managed to take the points in all games played, well done East !!
Box’s Seniors:
After finishing off well against Yinnar in our previous game the boys were keen to start just as well against the demons. In tough conditions we got off to a good start with Luke, Mark and Aaron giving our forwards every opportunity, it was great to see our new comers from the 3rds, Jacob Blair & Danny Mathieson were having an immediate impact on the game. Our backline has had a great year so far and were right up to it again only conceding 3 goals for the game. Better players on the day were Aaron Makepeace, Rowan Pepper, Eddie Lithgow and Mark Van Dyke.
Giddo’s Reserves:
Good win against Boolarra before the welcome break. We played good wet weather football and if not for inaccurate kicking in the final term it would have been a much more satisfying result. We’ll need to make our opportunities count in today’s game against Traf.
Trev’s Thirds:
Much better game and result for the boys against Boolarra a fortnight ago. We need to make sure we continue with our great team play in today’s tougher game against Traf. Better players were Nathan Scott, Shannon Winmar, Ryan Francis and Joel O’Connell.
Gav’s Fourths:
Had a bye against Boolarra and then a break, should be well rested and ready to give it our all today.
International Power Netball News:
15U: Morwell East 47 Defeated Boolarra 3. B.O.C. Sophie Kennedy. The girls had one of their biggest wins for the season thus far. However, even though the margin was big the girls had to fight hard for the ball especially in the mid court. We made some errors, especially with our footwork, but having height in the ring, Tayla Watson, we were able to get some easy goals. All in all everyone played well and it was good to be able change the girls into different positions.
17U: Morwell East 28 Defeated Boolarra 26. B.O.C. Team effort. A nail biting game which saw us hang onto the game by just 2 goals. Defensively our game was won, with Taylor Brouns getting back her great form. Nice passages of play coming through the mid court helped us to defeat a strong Boolarra outfit.
D Grade: Morwell East 56 Defeated Boolarra 8. B.O.C. Michelle Cini. An easy win for the girls, even so it didn't seem that way watching. Michelle and Alice combined well in defense, our midcourt was strong considering the conditions and of course our ever reliable goalers were superb.
C Grade: Morwell East 33 Defeated Boolarra 27. B.O.C. Kim Gourley. Another close game for our C graders. Boolarra's goalers were very strong hardly missing a goal and had our Defenders having to play very tight to be able to gain some inroads on them. They plugged away and ended up evenly matched in the end. Luckily our midcourt was able to work it into the goalers in a controlled manner enabling us to snatch a win.
B Grade: Morwell East 56 Defeated Boolarra 16. B.O.C. Danni Buglisi and Abbie Buckley. Our midcourt was once again very controlled, working out of defense and into our goaling end, they made it look so easy. Great to have Nicky Bowe back leading the girls on court, she will certainly prove an asset in defense.
A Grade: Morwell East 57 Defeated Boolarra 24. B.O.C. Jo Kappl. An enjoyable game played in good spirits by both teams. Well done to Boolarra who worked hard all game and never gave our girls an inch. Jo Kappl worked hard mid court and in goals securing a good win. Welcome to Kellie Gill, back in the A grade side, and nice to have Georgia back from her big holiday overseas.
Thank you to Deb who scored most of the day in very wet conditions..
