Today we welcome Newborough to Ronald Reserve and wish everyone involved the best of luck.
Last weeks games were played in wet & wild conditions up at Thorpdale, the seniors our only victors in the football and our netball sides all recording victories, well done girls terrific effort.
A big welcome to our 1974 3rds premiership team, who are having a reunion today, Carn The East!!
Box’s Seniors: Winter really showed its hand on the weekend and with the conditions and ground at its near worse the boys knew it was going to be a hard slog all day. We got on top early and with a 5 goal second qtr we went into halftime with a good lead in tough conditions. To Thorpdale’s credit, both teams slugged it out to the end with the blues kicking the only for the half. Players were caked form head to toe with mud, something I haven’t seen in a long time in footy. Best – Rich, Aaron Makepeace, Eddie and Luke Hopman. Rohan – 2 goals.
Giddo’s Reserves: Disappointing result last week against a more determined Thorpy outfit. We’ll need to lift considerably today to give ourselves a chance.
Trev’s Thirds: We had to slog it out in trying conditions against a determined top spot. The boys never gave up and worked hard all game. Outstanding individual efforts by Jacob Blair and Ryan Francis working hard around the ground. Best - J.Blair. R.Francis. B.Williams D.Evans. D.Mathison. B.Francis. Goals. J.Blair.2. S.Winmar.2.
Gavin’s Fourths: From chocolates to boiled lollies, yes the conditions were ordinary but our preparation was terrible. Those of you who were out half the night were easy to pick because you didn't get a kick, you boys need to apologise to the rest of the team and it should start with your efforts in today’s game. On the up side Brandon and Braydon Darby Lock a 13 year old showed what was required in wet weather footy both played fantastic games. The other good players were Shamus, Anthony Mobourn and Tim Mowatt.
Congratulations to Brandon Francis (capt), Luke Van Dyke and Dylan Roulston for making the interleague U/16 played on 8th July at Yinnar.
INTERNATIONAL POWER NETBALL NEWS
15U: Morwell East 26 Defeated Thorpdale 7. B.O.C. Tiarne Pendlebury. Good to get back on the winning list with a comfortable win over Thorpdale. In cold and wet conditions the girls played some excellent netball. Still need to finish off though, the game isn't over until the final siren. Remember girls, when one player isn't giving a 100% then you don't have a team playing as a team.
17U: Morwell East 25 Defeated Thorpdale 21. B.O.C. Tanarly Hood. A very close game made harder by Thorpdales good goalers. Started off well but as in the 15U's not at times prepared to finish off the game as well as we started. It can only do us good to play these pressure games and still come out with a win. Well done girls!
D grade: Morwell East 52 Defeated Thorpdale 7. B.O.C. Elise Campbell. A solid win by the D graders who played the game right to the end. Some great passages of play in wet conditions saw us come away with another good win.
C grade: Morwell East 47 Defeated Thorpdale 8. B.O.C. Donna Knowles. After last weeks loss it was good to get back on the winners list. The girls recorded an easy win, winning the ball out of defense on most occasions. Great to have the legend back, but where were you last week!
B grade: Morwell East 50 Defeated Thorpdale 25. B.O.C. Tanarly Hood. Strong win against good opposition, good to have all the team together for the 1st time this season. Too strong defensively saw us record an easy win.
A grade: Morwell East 37 Defeated Thorpdale 31. B.O.C. Kate French. Excellent win against excellent competition. The girls worked hard all game never giving Thorpdale an inch. Great work in Goals by Dee saw us take a well earned win.
Good to have young Kate making a name for herself against quality opposition.
