Today we have travelled up the Princes Highway to Yarragon, We look forward to their hospitality and some tough contests in all games played, good luck to everyone involved.
Last week we at home against Newborough our Seniors, Reserves and Thirds all recorded wins in the football and our Netball sides once again recorded wins in all grades. Great effort East !!
Box’s Seniors: A great 4 Qtr display last week saw the boys come away with a very convincing win. We controlled the game from the start and adapted to the wet conditions extremely well. With the added incentive of the 1974 premiership team looking on we came away with a 97pt Win. Congrats to Timmy Holland on his 1st senior for the year. Best Rich Te Paa, Aaron Makepeace, Luke Hopman & Phil Pavey.
Giddo’s Reserves: Better game and better result last week against Newborough at home. We set up a convincing win with a great first half of team football. Better players were Mark Lawrence, Taylor Wood, Robbie Hobbin and Shane Vallance.
Trev’s Thirds: The boys had a great win on the weekend. First quarter was pleasing with bodies on the line early. Second and third quarters a little patchy however never lost the drive, bouncing back what ever the dogs threw at them. Team efforts throughout the entire match proberbly got us over the line. Outstanding individual efforts from Nathan Scott, and Bobby Anderson. Best Nathan Scott. Bobby Anderson. Ash Hooton. Danny Mathison. Brett Fiddler. Joel O’Connell. Goals. S Tobin 3. D Mathison 2. A Hooton 1. S Winnmar 1. R Gatt 1.
Gavin’s Fourths: A very competitive effort against a good side, if we can just reduce our errors we will win more than we lose. Hope all the boys enjoy their day of no footy and are ready for next week. Better players Andy Maynard, Brandon Francis, Tony Helmuth and Blake Mills.
INTERNATIONAL POWER NETBALL NEWS
15U: Morwell East 20 defeated Newborough16. B.O.C. Ellen Mills. A very entertaining game between 2nd and 3rd placed teams. Our 15's started off playing really well as a team enabling us to take a four goal lead into the 2nd quarter. However, with some mistakes made by our girls we let Newborough get a two goal lead on us going into the 3rd quarter. Some tight defense against strong opposition helped us to fight back to get within one goal of Newborough going into the last quarter. Good goaling and strong feeding saw us come away with the game, winning by four goals. A very good, well disciplined game by our young 15U's. Some of our senior players may like to come and watch to see how a good team plays.
17U: Morwell East 44 defeated Newborough 14. B.O.C. Elise Campbell. A good win saw us regain 2nd spot on the ladder. Starting to play as a team again, nice to see Elise Campbell working well not only in goals but defense as well. Good work down the court enabled us to secure an easy win.
D Grade: Morwell East 41 defeated Newborough 37 B.O.C. Taylin Gourley. A great game by 1st and 3rd on the ladder. Newborough fought hard to get in front on numerous occasions. Our defense had to work very hard against quality goalers. Our feeding into goals helped us come away with a win in the end.
C Grade: Morwell East 45 defeated Newborough 22 B.O.C. Kristen Smith. C grade once again played an exceptional game. Playing very well at the moment, capitalising on any errors opposition make with a goal. Well done girls, but don't get complacent as we still have a long way to go.
B Grade: Morwell East 45 defeated Newborough 28 B.O.C. Debbie Barnes. Unfortunately a game that was played in shocking conditions. Our defense played well today against very good opposition. They were well disciplined, never giving their goalers an inch. Good feeding by our attackers gave our goalers every chance to secure the goal, helping us to secure a well deserved win.
A Grade: Morwell East 52 defeated Newborough 22 B.O.C. Amanda Quail. Some nice passages of play coming into goals today helped us come away with the goods. Work at training is becoming evident with everyone on the same page. Great goaling by Amanda who showed she's not just a pretty face.
Well done girls.
Thanks again to our wonderful scorers, especially Rhonda Mills who helps out under terrible conditions, she had to work hard just to keep the rain off the score sheets!
