The last three rounds have been good to Barooga football teams with the 4 sides posting their third grand slam of victories in succession. All teams were able to post wins against Numurkah at Barooga last Saturday in wet and greasy conditions.
The fourths began the day well with all players carrying out instructions better much to the delight of coach Mick Dunn.Awards went to: Hary Forster(Barooga Bakery), Jake Jenkins(Barooga General Store), Jake Russell (Spanner) Troy Metzner and (Barooga IGA).
The thirds got away to a flyer against one of the competitions top teams. Numurkah put pressure back on the young Hawks but their new found confidence over the past month held them in good stead. Awards went to: Brendan Kearney (Menthas) Tom Currie(Barooga General Store), Conor Ryan (Andrew Jenkins Real Estate) and Hayden Atkinson-Thring (Babcon).
The reserves kept their undefeated record intact with a solid display against Numurkah. Better players included: Rob Ryan (Menthas) Joel Kirk (Bottom Pub), Matthew Hosking (Bottom Pub) Rhys Holt (Barooga Sporties).
The seniors were hoping to set up the match against the Blues with a positive start. First quarters have previously been lacking. Only inaccuracy in front of goals would have displeased coach McNamara. Sean Harrap proved to be a reliable target up forward with regular supply coming through Tom Crapp (major incentive 1) and Tom ODwyer(major incentive award 2). The Hawks lost focus midway through the second term and handed Numurkah the momentum back when some undisciplined play crept into the game. Stern words rectified the problem at half time and with a better focus the Hawks went onto post a pleasing win. Minor awards went to Ryan Forsyth and Jamie Stanyer.
Netball went the way of Numurkah who overall won six out of eight matches. Most pleasing win of all came from the ever improving junior juniors who sqeaked home by the solitary goal in a nail-biter. This, too, was the margin for the only other victory with B grade surviving yet another close game by one goal for the second week in a row. Best player awards went to Allison Galloway (A grade); Team award (B grade); Kathleen Tallent (C reserve); Amy Russell (under 17s); Alex Dunn (under 15s); Cody Millsteed and Jordyn Morey (under 13s) and Jess Quirk (under 11s).
