Hawk Talk Vol. 3
WELCOME TO 1950 PREMIERS!
Today sees the 60th reunion of the 1950 Barooga MFL Sunday Competition Premiers! They will be catching up with old foes from Finley, who they overcame in epic circumstances many moons ago. In the original play-off, the scores couldn’t be separated, with Barooga 9.7 61 tied with Finley’s 8.13 61. This meant that everyone had to come back the following week and have another go at producing a premier. Fortunately, it was the Hawks who prevailed, winning the replay, 8.11 59 to the Cats’ 6.2 38. Amazing to see that names synonymous with the Club back then; Nye, Brooks, Dunn and O’Dwyer, are still involved heavily to this present day!!! We wish these past champions all the best and hope they have a great day heading down memory lane. Make sure you go and say g’day, making yourselves known.
SYMPATHIES TO MEMBERS
Deepest condolences to Wolfie, Kerry and the girls on the passing of Kerry’s father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.
WILD WEST NIGHT
After the Tocumwal game, May 15th, we will be having a WILD WEST NIGHT up at the Golf Club. In what should be a fun-filled night of frivolity, the new Bucking Bull Champion of Barooga title will be up for grabs. So dust off those RM’s, slap on the moleskins and stick on a 12 gallon and get yourself ready for a rootin’, tootin’ shoot ‘em up good time!!!!
FATHER VS. SON, MOTHER VS. DAUGHTER
In a fortnight’s time, sees no-holds barred competition (and you thought the UFC was tough!!!) when the younger members of the club take on their parents in games of football and netball. In years gone by, this has been a bruising encounter, with the oldies coming out on the wrong side of the injury count!!! Wonder who will be the next victim to the cursed “ mind’s willing but body aint” syndrome!!!!!! Should be lots of fun especially after the Wild West Night!!!!
Club Milestones
Great to see some of the younger members of the Club reaching milestones last week. In belated congratulations, well done to Riley Brooks on reaching 100 BFNC club games and Pete Connors on achieving 50 U17 games for the BFNC. Look forward to many more games from these two in years to come!
Thanks To Our Wonderful Committee Members
As you know, the committee behind any organisation are those volunteers, who give up a great amount of their time and effort in seeing the organisation prosper and stay viable. The BFNC is no different and we are fortunate enough to have a group of hard-working women and men willing to do just this for the good of the Club. Thanks to all those who have been busting a gut at the home games and at other functions, such as the Lions’ Deb Ball, to keep revenue coming into the coffers!!! Your efforts are definitely recognised and appreciated. Let’s make sure we can all help out in some shape or form to assist these wonderful and loyal club people!!!!
THURSDAY NIGHT DINNERS AND MEMBERS’ DRAW
Don’t forget that you are able to grab a bite to eat EVERY Thursday before a game. Next week sees the netballers putting on a CASSEROLE NIGHT! From past experiences, the girls put on a good spread and it’s well worth the small fee you pay! Another incentive is the MEMBERS’ DRAW! You have to be present to claim the prize, which has jackpotted to $250 big ones!!!!!
PLAYERS’ AUCTION MONEY DUE!!!
Players’ auction money is now due. Please see John Bruce Snr. or Sarah Bruce and give them the amount for your group!
