“Hawk Talk” Vol. 1, 2010
New Look Committee
At the AGM, we had an influx of new faces join the BFNC committee, with the Football committee having 21 members and the Netball, 11, giving us a whole committee of 32 people! From these, the following executive positions have been filled:
Club Chairman: Wolfie Wagner
Presidents: Wayne Holt (Football), Wendy Brooks (Netball)
General Managers: Carmen O’Dwyer (Football), Sarah Bruce (Netball)
Treasurer: John Bruce Snr.
We wish them all the best in driving the BFNC successfully into the present and future!

New officials/players to the club include: Rob Wren (Senior Coach), Luke Trembath (U14 coach), Shane Harvey (North Heidelberg), Bernard Price (Yarrawonga), Michael Sumner (Tailem Bend), Brett Clarke (Northcote Park), Travis Hayes (Tungamah), Dylan Brooks (overseas), Matt O’Dwyer (Richmond Central), Mitch and Ben Sim (Cobram). The netball sees Jenny Barlow, Emma Streeter, Abby Osborne, Hannah Rutledge, Melissa Elleray and Natasha Howard joining the ranks.
We wish them and all Hawks’ players the very best!!!
Sporting Talent
What a superstar Ryan Forsyth is!!!! Not only did he win the Club’s Senior B & F last year, he then went on and had a stellar cricket season, winning the competition’s leading batsmen award and the MVP for the comp!! Unfortunately, the umpires didn’t share these sentiments and he was unlucky not to walk away with a Guthrie as well. Special mention to Liam Ryan, who scored an incredible 100 in the ill-fated semi final against the Tigers. In achieving this, his dicky shoulder came out 5 times!!!! We wish him well in his recovery from surgery.
New Bundles of Joy over the Summer
Congratulations to: Carmen and Jon O’Dwyer on the safe arrival of Taylah Ruby (17th October), Sharon and Jay Nye on another beautiful daughter, Ellie Grace (13th November), Kate and Rob Wren on their “double trouble”, Oscar and Ted (31st December), and Danae and Matt Byers on their bouncing “pink” bundle of joy, Scarlett May(20th March). Great to see that the playing stocks for the future are being well stocked!!!!!!!!
Engagement Announcements
Congratulations extend out to Gemma Whinray & Zane Goodwin, Nick Flanagan & Jordan Butler and Marcus Flanagan & Claire on their respective engagements. Last night, one of our ex champions, Brad Glass, tied the knot with his better half, Tamara.

Coaches and Captains
On the football side of things, as previously mentioned, Rob Wren has taken over the realm of Senior Coach. Wrenny has a track record second to none, being one of the most sought after players in Country football when at his peak. He had a run downtown at Richmond, and played in the O&M, Essendon & District and the strong ACTAFL competitions, finally finishing up at his home club in Tungamah, where he coached them to an undefeated premiership in 2008! He was also with the Hawks in 2004 as a player. He will be ably supported by Robbo, who takes on the role of AC. Ryan “Rock” Forsyth takes over the role as Captain Courageous, and will be assisted by Hydey, Crappy and Rowdy (Matt Hyde, Tom Crapp and Jamie Stanyer respectively). Greg Hazelman takes on the role as Reserves Coach, a role he will be well familiar with as he was Flanno’s right hand man last year. At time of writing, the captains were not known as the Ressie attempt a threepeat in ’10!!!! With numbers not being as good as in previous years, be on the lookout for names such as Bowden, Currie (as in Jamie!!!), Noble, Wren and Trembath to grace the park at some stage during the year!!! Mick Dunn ventures up into the realm of U17s footy as coach of this team. Presently, the boys are firing after a very solid pre-season. If they can reproduce some of their pre-season form, they will be right amongst the action come September. Bowdo is assisting Mick in this endeavour. Captains have not been named. Luke Trembath has kindly accepted the role of U14s mentor. The boys are lacking a bit of height but will definitely make up for it in endeavour. Gill and Bobby are giving Luke a hand, which is great to see plus Senior members of the club will be heavily involved throughout the year, helping the boys out. Lachie Wright has received the honour of leading the team, with Cal Leighton-Daly and Hary Foster supporting him in this role.
The netballers have been working hard at improving their game over an intense 10 week period. Hopefully, all the hard work will pay dividends on the court. We have been very fortunate to gain the services of Jenny Barlow, who comes with high credentials after a successful coaching stint in the GVNL. Although only part-time, Jenny’s knowledge and experience will be invaluable for our girls, especially the younger brigade. Theresa and Wendy will be supporting Jenny when she is unavailable. Kim Ryan returns to the netball front as coach of B Grade. After a long and illustrious career, Kim will have a lot to offer the girls. Nikki Foster continues in her role as C Grade head honcho and will be looking to form a side, which played off in finals last year. In late developments, Jordan Butler has taken the reins of C Reserve. Junior wise, Steph Davidson-Dunn is coaching the U17s, Caitlin Mills and Jess Elleray the U15s, Nikki (U13s), Jackie Vogel (U12s) and Berny Bray (U11s). We wish all our coaches and players the very best of luck over the season’s course.
