The weather was about the only good thing that happened last Saturday, on an otherwise very BLUE day for the Hawks. Numurkah gave us an almighty touch-up, winning 11 of the 12 netball/football matches played and were far too good on the day. Off to Deni today, where we have to try and turn around our fortunes. Good luck to all the players and officials in this endeavour.
The Senior game was an outstanding match, living up to its ‘Match Of The Round’ status. That was up until three quarter time!!!! For the third consecutive week, the boys couldn’t go on with the job and the Blues ran over the top to win comfortably by 41 points. ‘Doing it in Deni’ would be a great way to get our season back on track. Hilly is slowly starting to get back to full fitness and playing to the standard we would expect from him. Hydey continues to be a shining light, leading the tackle count for the second week running. The boy from Tailem Bend, ‘Magic’ Mick Sumner, had his best game to date and is starting to acclimatise to MFL footy, Crappy was his consistent self, Pinny gave a great focal point at CHF and Rock did a great job down in the last line of defence. Time to pull up the socks and finish of a whole game boys because the next three matches will either make or break us!!! Only you can answer this!
Our reigning premier side, the Reserves, is in unknown territory at the bottom realms of the ladder. Probably a sign of the times when Bowdo and Gil are pulling on the boots to have a run due to unavailabilities and injury. Need some of the top age U17s to come up and give the boys a hand. Bit sad (no offence) when Knuckles is being awarded the best player, in only his second game back from 5 years off and at the ripe old age of 21 (+ 18)!!!!!! Great effort by him but............. Boxhead, Josh Ryan, Jamie Nye, Jay and Nick Q all lead the way in an otherwise disappointing day for the Hawks! Let’s get back on the right track today.
The U17s again had a battle on their hands as they took on another of the front-runners of the competition. After a fairly even first quarter, the Hawks were outplayed for the next two before finishing off strongly in the last. Unfortunately, you don’t win a game through one quarter of footy but, hopefully, this will be the catalyst to turn their fortunes around. Ben Sim was again a shining beacon for the side. Ryan Welch, Cal Brooks, Tom Butler, Matt Foster and Riley Brooks also tried everything they could to stem the tide and turn the game back into Barooga’s favour. Need everyone contributing and can’t leave it up to too few!!!!
The U14s were totally swamped by a side that had many Collingwood 6 footers!! You might as well put the glasses down as they would have to be firming as flag favourites already (only had 1 point scored against them after 3 rounds!). The young Hawks tried their little hearts out and, although beaten convincingly, never stopped trying. Caleb Brooks and Hary Foster were again outstanding for the home team, with Dion Metzner, Jake Jenkins and Tom Creenaune contributing as well.
On the netball side of the ledger, the girls also found a win hard to come by, with only the U13’s getting up by the barest of margins. Well done girls!

With having 14 in the team, each girl played half a game. The girls, under the leadership of Bernie, played a great game. Barooga 4 lost to Numurkah 6. Encourgement Awards: Steph Humphries and Mathilda Noble.
13 & Under
This was the only Barooga team to win on Saturday!!! The girls played a fantastic game, with great passages of play up the court, being rewarded by some fabulous shooting. Barooga 18 narrowly defeated Numurkah 17. Jordyn Morey and Lucinda Quinane received the Barooga Café and Take Away and Coach’s awards.
15 & Under
All the girls tried hard but Numurkah were just too good. Continue to listen to Jess and Caitlin, be aware of where each other is on the court, take your first option and, more importantly, support each other and the results will come. “The Beach” award went to Dana Millsteed.

The girls started on fire in the first quarter. Numurkah played great defence and made our girls work very hard with their passes. Unfortunately, Numurkah took too many intercepts, which were converted into goals. Barooga 15 lost to Numurkah 38. Award: Breana Nye Donated by Barooga General Store
C Res
This was the first time all the girls played together with everyone back from holidays. The girls played hard and gave it their all, but the heat took its toll and the girls tired. Barooga 19 lost to Numurkah 49. Julie Humphries received the D’Vine Award

This was another game that we let slip away. We need our heads in the game and to be firing every quarter. Our 3rd quarter let us down last week and we ended up paying the price. Barooga 38 lost to Numurkah 44. Barooga Hotel Award: Jackie Vogel.

Unfortunately another game we all want to forget. Our first quarter was quite good but Numurkah didn’t allow us to play with any fluency and confidence after that. It’s important to learn from these games but not to let it get us down. Let’s get back to our first round standard, be positive and believe. A great debut in B Grade Cath Brooks, well done and thoroughly deserved the Fosters – Seppelts award.
A Grade
A promising first quarter saw our girls match the strong Numurkah line-up but, after quarter time, Numurkah seemed to lift two gears. Try as we might, we couldn’t match their intensity. To the girl’s credit, they didn’t give up. We believe in you – believe in yourselves: D’Vine Award: Taylah Hazelman
Good luck to everyone today!! Let’s give a good account of ourselves and truly reflect who we really are!!!!!
Let’s have some ram, ewe and lamb for dinner!!!!! Go Hawks!!!
