KICK FOR YOUR CLUB
Just a quick update on how we are going. Unfortunately, it looks as though we have been overpowered by South Barwon. They are nearly 300 kickers in front of us, which has enabled them to skip clear by about 200km’s. Although this is the case, keep kicking as we have passed the 5 500 thousand mark, currently sitting on 5637km. Fantastic effort. Received plenty of prizes, with registered kickers of our club receiving 4 footies and 3 Rebel vouchers so not all in vain! Couple of weeks to go so let’s finish off strongly and make everyone stand up and take notice of our proud club!
VALE – Robbie Vandermeer
On a sad note, the club offers their sincerest condolences to the Vandermeer family on the passing of Robbie. For those who didn’t know Vandy, he was a young fella, only 36, who lived life to the fullest. For the past 5 years, he has been battling Motor Neurone Disease. Vandy was a keen junior member of our club, being fortunate enough to be part of the 1986, ’87 and ’88 Fourth (U14s) Premiership sides. He was also a keen cricketer for the Barooga CC. Positive he will be finding all the good fishing spots upstairs if he can get past St. Peter!!!! Our prayers and thoughts are with Kate, Otto, Vicki and Casey.
Dry In July
What a great effort by the Senior squad to take up the challenge of going ‘Dry In July’. Starting out as a bit of a novelty, by Muscles (Matt O’Dwyer), was soon turned into a full blown reality for everyone involved when suggested that the squad should all do it in a team meeting. To their credit, the boys (some under duress!) have stuck to it! Fair to say, proof is in the pudding as we haven’t had as many injuries, plus we’ve knocked off Moama (3rd at time) and Cobram (undefeated when we played them) over the month. So even though the bar sales have been down, well done on the boys for taking up the challenge and using it to their advantage!!!
Great Night Had @ BFNC Club Ball
Since our last Hawk Talk, the club had their Club Ball and Sportsman’s Night. Both nights were successful, especially the ball, where the effort made by those who attended was fantastic. Some pictures can be viewed on the other side of this edition of Hawk Talk!

HARVS – NSW COUNTRY REPRESENTATION
Congratulations to Shane Harvey on his NSW representation for the Australian Country Football Championships, which were held in Canberra/Queanbeyan last weekend. After a slow start, the NSW’s boys put it together at the end of the carnival to finish a credible 5th. The MFL had good representation with 6 players involved. Great to see Harvs and these boys get the opportunity at this level!
LOOK-A-LIKES!
Let’s see who we can find in the club to match up with someone or something they look like.
Shaun “Bruiser” Robbins = Rupert Boneham of ‘Survivor’
James “Pinny” Hazelman = Mr. Squiggle
Geoffrey “Broey” Gaylard = Marlon Brando “Godfather”
MERCHANDISE
No more merchandise orders will be taken. There is some stock left in the form of polos, caps (training and dress) and beanies, so if you want anything, see Carmen O’Dwyer or Wayne Holt today.
JOKE OF THE FORTNIGHT
Farmer Jimmy called the vet because he thought his prize bull was a fairy. “He’s not interested in any of the heifers,” he complained. The vet prescribed a special mixture.
A week later, Farmer Jimmy’s neighbour commented on the vigour with which the bull was mounting anything that moved!
“What was the mixture the vet prescribed?” he queried.
“Don’t know,” said a very happy Farmer Jimmy,” it’s brown in colour and tastes like aniseed!” Poor Cath!
