One game to go before the serious stuff starts!! Last weeks efforts saw the Hawks take 3 wins from the 4 games. The Seniors and Reserves were fantastic, the Thirds werent disgraced and the Fourths held on in another nail biter.
Fourths coach Mick Dunn would be out of heart pills after yet another close encounter against the Lions. The boys led by a goal at the long break and then played a great third quarter to extend the lead to 14 points by three quarter time. The Lions charged in the final term and drew within a point before the siren sounded. In their previous clash the margin was also a point but favoured the Lions so revenge was sweet!!
Ryan Welsh (Barooga General Store) played a blinder, working tirelessly throughout the game. Logan Morey (Outdoor Indulgence), Cal Leighton-Daly (Barooga Bakery) and Daniel Davis (Spanner Brooks Encouragement) may be small in stature but they have huge hearts and they stood tall when the going got tough. Arty Rootsey, Sam Gough and Troy Metzner were others to play well.
Mulwala are traditionally strong in the Thirds and this season is no exception. They got off to a flyer in the first term but Barooga hit back. The Hawks hit the post 3 times in the second quarter and could have been right in it had luck gone their way. Ultimately the Lions were too good but the Hawks have shown that they are capable of matching it with the good sides. James McNeill (Menthas) was again outstanding, Josh McGaw (Andrew Jenkins Real Estate) is playing very good football and finishing the season strongly and Tom Currie rated highly. Conor Ryan (Barooga General Store), Damian Hyde (Barooga Bakery), Will Robinson (Babcon Hire) and Zeke Bunge all worked hard for four quarters.
What about the Reserves?? They continued their unbeaten run and, although Mulwala were undermanned, the Hawks won in emphatic fashion. A 215 point win emphasises the dominance of the Hawks with all players contributing to the win but Simon Douglas was brilliant. Dougie went into the round trailing in the goalkicking by 10. He helped himself to a lazy 18 goals, handed out a few along the way and dominated proceedings. The effort secured the League goalkicking award and he only needs 22 this week to bring up the magical ton.
Dougie (Barooga Hotel) needed to get his supply from somewhere and Joel Kirk (Babcon Hire), Brad Glass (Barooga Sporties), Adam Fox and Glenn Nye were brilliant through the midfield setting up countless opportunities. Jason Connor (Bottom Pub) and Ben Ryan kicked four each and there were 8 other goalkickers signifying the team effort the Hawks put together.
The Seniors were obviously buoyed by the Reserves display and decided to put on a clinic of their own. They too dominated throughout and in doing so kept the Lions goalless while notching up a 140 point win. Despite being without Sean Harrap, Sean Robbins and Dylan Brooks, the Hawks had winners all over the ground with the only concern being skill errors that need to be eliminated before the finals commence. Chris Gallagher had another great game against his former club to take out a Major Incentive. Rowan OCallaghan and Andrew Smith displayed the experience that will be crucial come finals time and Tim ODwyer received a Major Incentive while DOC and Sam Ryan collected the Minor Incentives. Stuey Galloway, Zac Gallagher, Marty Brooks, Zane Goodwin, Hayden Woodward and Jayson Biggs were resolute in defence and ensured the Lions attack failed to register a goal.
Selectors faced the tough task of picking this weeks team given that there were no passengers last week and everyone wants to be a part of the finals campaign. Good luck fellas!!!!
The Fourths celebrated their win with a bonfire at Brett and Jo Wrights. The evening was well attended by players and parents and a good night was had by all. Thanks Brett and Jo!!

We had a good first half and were only two goals down at half time. Unfortunately we couldnt maintain our standard of play and ended up losing by a large margin. It sums up a year that was pretty inconsistent with some great highs and real lows. Everybody can be proud of themselves as we always gave 100% every game. Lets finish off the season with a win against Finley
Today we meet Finley and hopefully we can fine tune our game for the Finals campaign. Last game for the season for the Thirds and Fourths, lets go out in a blaze of glory. After the game its back to the Sporties for dinner.
