Last week the Hawks were successful in both Seniors and Reserves, however the Under 17s and Under 14s went down to the Blues to square the ledger for the day.
Under 14 The Under 14s kicked off the day against a skillful Numurkah side in what turned out to be almost a mirror image of their early season clash. In fact the young Hawks kicked 3-3 in both games while the Blue scored 1-2 less this time around. At the long break there was only 3 goals in it but the Blues again played their best footy in the third term to put the game out of reach. The final scores read 11-5 to 3-3. Daniel Russell (Barooga Bakery) is playing very good footy and he got plenty of it again last week. Arty Rootsey (Barooga General Store) is also starting to string some quality games together, while Josh Wright (Spanner Brooks Encouragement) and Tom McNeill (Outdoor Indulgence) both had their best games for a while. Top side Cobram is the task today and all boys will need to perform for four quarters to cause a boilover.
Under 17 The Under 17s werent able to replicate their win against Numurkah in round 4 but they werent disgraced. The difference can probably be put down to the previous weeks indiscretions which should be taken as a harsh reality check. Little separated the two sides throughout the game but the Blues were more desperate in the last quarter and pulled away to win by 16 points. Hayden Atkinson-Thring (Menthas) and James Leech (Andrew Jenkins Real Estate) were the stand out performers for the Hawks. Hayden ran hard all day while Leechy was strong overhead and dominant when rucking. Tom Currie (Babcon Hire) and Riley Brooks (Barooga Bakery) have been models of consistency the entire season and they again worked very hard to lift the side. Tyler Smith (Barooga General Store) played a great rebounding game in defence as did Zeke Bunge.
Reserves The Reserves played a much better brand of footy against the Blues last week. They dominated every aspect of the game for four quarters with the Blues only having an impact in the second quarter. Eleven goal kickers show that the boys were prepared to work for each other and share the ball around and with four games to go they can build on this performance leading into the finals. Brad Glass (Barooga Hotel) was brilliant; picking up kicks at will and his presence and experience come finals will be inspirational. Joel Kirk (Babcon Hire) was right back at the top of his game, Ben McNeill (Bottom Pub) was resolute across half back and Simon Douglas (Barooga Sporties) continues to get amongst it with another bag of 6 goals. Daniel Brophy and Micky Connors made the best players on a day were all players rated highly.
Seniors The Seniors were up against the sixth placed side who were looking to consolidate a finals spot. Poor kicking by the Blues in the opening quarter kept the Hawks in the game. The second term was a little better but not much as the Hawks turned the ball over too often and Numurkah seemed to be attacking the footy a lot harder. Leading by six points at half time the Hawks needed to restructure the side. A spray from Byso and several positional changes had the desired effect and Barooga seized control in the second half. The Hawks doubled the Blues score kicking 10-5 to 5-2 to run out comfortable but unimpressive 39 point winners. Stuey Galloway was best for the Hawks and his attack on the ball can never be questioned. Sammy Ryan needed a good game and he delivered, picking up plenty of possessions and hitting targets. Rowan OCallaghan is finding consistency and Sean Harrap always threatened up forward and booted 4 goals. Dylan Brooks returned to the Seniors and he got plenty of it, particularly early in the game when he appeared to have his own footy out there. It was hard to find four quarter contributors with Zac Gallagher, Tim ODwyer, Andrew Smith, Brent Chapman, Sean Robbins and Tyron Hill all having an influence at various times throughout.
Today against Cobram the Barooga Football Netball Club has joined the Call to Arms. Call To Arms is a great opportunity for our club to help men in our community think about what they can do to prevent cancer. We are wearing yellow armbands and donations can be made to the Cancer Council (see Mick Butler.) A couple of club legends celebrate their 50th birthdays over the next few days. Mal Machine McKean reaches the milestone on Monday, while Steven Spanner Brooks gets there a day later. Congratulations men, Im sure youll celebrate appropriately!!!!!!
Make sure you free up Sunday 3rd of August for A Pleasant Sunday Morning which includes a scrumptious lunch and fantastic entertainment for $20 (see Mick ODwyer). This should be a great day so dont miss it!

All players, supporters & juniors (accompanied by their parents until 9.30pm) are most welcome to head along for a meal and drinks in the back room to celebrate what will hopefully be much success against arch-rivals Cobram. Netball 10/U: Our first opportunity to play for quite a while and you all should be so proud of yourselves. Not all leading together and passing the ball quicker made the game very entertaining. Well done to everyone. Encouragement Awards: Abbey and Alice.

17/U: Barooga 29 to Numurkah 32 What a great game these girls played only going down by 3 to one of the better teams! Great effort girls! Lets go out this weekend and go for another win! Award Hannah Kelly
C Reserve: Barooga 36 to Numurkah 34 Seems the extra fitness work were doing is paying off. We had to work our way back into the game with Numurkah having the lead after the first change. The girls stayed positive and focused and soon started to take control of the 2nd quarter, which set us up with a slight lead at 1/2 time. The second 1/2 was well contested by both sides, our mid court players put in a fantastic effort and really steadied in the final moments of the game for us to come away with the win. Special mention to Hannah for again filling in and putting in a great game!! Wingates Award: Hayley. Fleur Gaylard Award: Jacoba
C Grade: Barooga 41 to Numurkah 41 A much improved and more polished Numurkah side is a threat to us in finals so we need to polish our game more. However, it is great to see that our fitness levels are up- a huge advantage to our young side. Lets take it back to basics against Cobram this week, we really need to fight for 2nd place- it will give us a second chance in finals. DVine ideas award to Holly Doyle
B Grade: Barooga 23 to Numurkah 39 Award went to Lauren Scott
A Grade: Barooga 38 to Numurkah 48 Bad luck girls. We are as good as Numurkah but it is hard to overcome very inconsistent umpiring at one end. I dare not say the b word. Well done for giving 100% all game. Lets move on to next week and bring it home against arch rival Cobram. DVine Ideas award to Carmen. GO HAWKS!!!
