Round 12

Seniors

Although kicking into quite a strong breeze we were able to get off  to a reasonably good start. Our midfielders Nathan Gemmill, Troy Snelson, Ricky Barnes and Al Corry were all winning their individual battles as too was two hundred gamer Ross Garner at centre half forward playing equally as well in any games previous. With a score of two goals to one we scored the first major of the second quarter to make it two a piece, then suddenly the wind died down and so too did our momentum. Cobram scored the next four goals and this could have been a lot more but for the tireless efforts of the boys up back, Adam Quarrell, Andrew Hughes and Paul McCallum all giving plenty were able to turn back many a tiger thrust. So too Billy Hutchinson remaining competitive in the ruck although giving away both centimetres and years of maturity. We finished the quarter with Mitch Curtis kicking accurately. The third term saw the opposition  double its lead to six goals and with both teams kicking three goals each in the last it was not the result we had dreamed for our star two hundred gamer.

Final score: Cobram 13.10 d. Nathalia 8.11

Reserves

The game started off at a steady pace with our guys in the game early. The determination was fantastic all over the ground. 3 goals down at quarter time was okay but not where we wanted to be. By half time we pulled back a goal and only trailed by a couple. Our third quarter let us down and we trailed by 6 goals. Last quarter we just let the boys play but ran out of legs. Spanna was outstanding in the ruck all day; Adam Duffus played his best game for the club and is turning into a cult hero at the club. Stu Bell gathered plenty of possessions, Ash Dohnt was his typical hard at it self and was getting a lot of the ball from under packs. Darren Hindle set the game alight on a couple of occasions and has the ability to do this much more. A special mention to Navey who looks like getting back to his mercurial best.

Awards: Past Players’ Mug, Daniel Robinson; Blake St Butchery, Adam Duffus; Middle Hotel, Stuart Bell; Club awards; Ash Dohnt, Darren Hindle.

Under 17’s

Last week we travelled to Cobram and from the start of the game our boys were always in it. Our backline was under extreme pressur all day and were able to repel the ball and set up many forward moves. Standouts in the back line were Joel Cahir, Jack Ryan and Angus Armstrong. Our mid field battled hard with Marcus Walsh, Corey Hicks & Ilija Kolundzija running out of legs towards the end of the game. Great running from Jordan Nave to come from the back line to kick a goal. Special mention to Stuart Sutton for a great game and also to Angus Armstrong for a good four quarter effort. Another special mention for  Joseph Nihill playing at full forward this week and always being several moves in front of his opponent.

Awards: Lowy’s Farm Fencing Joel Cahir; TJ’s Supermarket, Corey Hicks; Al’s Cafe, Marcus Walsh; Rex James Stockfeed, Jack Ryan; Salon 12 Hairdressing, Ilija Kolundzija; Tony Ryan Best 1st Year, Angus Armstrong.

Under 14’s

We had a great preparation, with a few boys getting to Cobram at 8.00 to warm up. Well done Heath, Todd & Hayden. It must have worked as all three boys played good games. It was good to have Rhys Shannon & Ned Loader back after injury. Brenton Boxall had an energy packed breakfast and played accordingly. He attacked the footy with purpose and his fellow defender Todd Stringer did likewise. Hayden Tyrrell, the tackling machine, used his pace and strength to set up many forward moves and Matts Ginnivan capped it off with terrific forward positioning. We had many scoring opportunities and some of our Grade 6 boys displayed their improving skills, notably Tom Brooks, Jared Laffy and Bowen Smith,

Netball

B Grade: Our first quarter was a slow start and resulted in us being 8 down at quarter time. The next 2 quarters saw us play some great netball holding our own and at ¾ time down by 10. The last quarter we swung some changes and got great results everywhere except the score board. Well done girls. Awards: Nathalia Pizza, Amy Kopsidis; Nathalia Tyre & Brakes, Jakara Henderson; Brereton’s Bakery, Bree Hicks and Kristi Schram.

C Grade: Great game, very fast. Very good team work. Well done to everyone. Awards: Kinnards Retreat, Narelle Oakes; Nathalia Pizza, Jo Terry; Lowy’s Farm Fencing, Rose Nihill.

C Reserve: Great game played by all. Well done to Sam, Kylie Debbie & Bern for playing centre. Great goaling by shooters. Awards: Kinnards Retreat, Sam Butler; Fastway Courier, Kylie Darcy, Brereton’s Bakery, Ben Brooks.

17/U: Fantastic first quarter moving the ball down the court with great skill gave them a 14 point lead at end of first quarter. Coach Kirby mixed up the team for the rest of the game and the girls all played well in their different positions. Brittany Shannon was fantastic in the goal ring, Gemma Cusack also took many intercepts which made it difficult for Cobram to keep the ball down their end. Great game Purps. Awards: Cameron’s Lawyers, Taylah Brown; Al’s Café, Nikki Mahncke; Lowy’s Farm Fencing, Whitney Hicks.

15/U: Great first quarter with the start we have been wishing in the past. Wonderful defending by Bianca and Erin. Marni and Taylah combined beautifully in goals. Stacey applied great pressure all around court. Margo and Meg helped out all the way down the court. Everyone had a swap in the third quarter to show how versatile they all were. Great game by everyone. Awards: Casual Step, Taylah Shanahan; Al’s Café, Biance Kloundzija; Lowy’s Farm Fencing, Meg Byrnes.
