The final score did not show how close the game was. Deniliquin kicked the last 3 goals to come away with a good win. There were some standout performances for Nathalia; Sam German played his best game for the club and Sean Mortimer was unpassable at centre halfback. Stu Bell struggle with the flu but was dangerous up forward and Dave Quinn stood out in a back pocket and in the ruck. Jonathon Tamburro was back to some good form.

Nathalia 1.0.6 lost to Deniliquin 16.14.110
Nathalia came up against the top team Deniliquin and from the start Nathalia were under extreme pressure. In the second half Nathalia continued try hard and held Deniliquin to only 4 goals. Best players were Jack Ryan, who was hard at it all day; Marcus Walsh for four good quarters; Joel Cahir, who was back from the seniors; Corey Hicks and Ilija Kolundzija who never gave up presenting all day, and Hal Wilson who picked up best first year player.

Nathalia 1.4.10 lost to Deniliquin 18.10.118
A cold morning greeted the fourths boys, with the change room heater the focal point before the game. Nathalia were determined to play attacking football from the first bounce and this resulted in Bowen Smith scoring a goal in the first 10 minutes. The tackling pressure by Nathalia applied to Deniliquin was fantastic, leading to many turnovers, which they used to move the ball forward, with Tom Nihill, Alex Hicks and Bowen Smith all benefitting from this. Harrison Hawks and Jared Laffy played well on the wings with Kodi Hicks and Dylan Bell working hard on the half forward line. Heath Wharton presented an option with his positive leading and Logan Mortimer continued his good form. Nathalia’s backline defended well with Matts Ginnivan, Dermot Nichols and Todd Stringer all putting in great games.

Nathalia’s netball highlight for the day was C Reserve’s Sherelle Smith who shot 44 out of 49 goals.
B Grade: Nathalia 47 lost to Deniliquin 50. Fantastic game. The last 3 minutes cost us the game. Everyone pulled their weight and played like champions. Nice goaling by Katryna and Jakara and beautiful feeding by Kirby and Amy. Our defenders worked really hard as well. We’re not too far away from a win now, so let’s keep working hard. C Reserve: Nathalia 49 defeated Deniliquin 18. What a super game! Magnificent shooting, great intercepts and good defence. Smithy was on fire, the scorer couldn’t keep up with her (44 out of 49). 17/U: Nathalia 34 defeated Deniliquin 32.After first quarter down 6 to 11 , a very strong second quarter to be 18-14 up at half time. A nail biter at the end that left us two up at the finish. Well done, great team effort to beat 2nd on the ladder. What a buzz in the change room after the game. 15/U: Nathalia 26 lost to Deniliquin 28. Again let opposition get away. After half time had to work away at a 6 goal deficit. Scores were even at three quarter time aided by great defending by Mia & Bianca. Fought hard to take the win but just couldn’t get there. Great goaling by Sophie and Marni and good positioning by Stacey. Awards: Casual Step, Mia Ryan; Al’s Café, Stacey Ross; Lowy’s Farm Fencing, Erin Michel.
13/U: Nathalia 12 lost to Deniliquin 31. GET IN FRONT! Need to watch our passes girls. We can do it if we concentrate and put in a full four quarter effort. Awards: Nathalia Supporters, Nakea Maddigan; Al’s Café, Alysia Oakes; Lowy’s Farm Fencing, Zoe Morris.
11/U: This could have been a closer game if the girls listened more to the coach and paid attention to the basics. However, Deni were a taller, bigger opposition which does make it hard and there’s always next week. Overall well done to all of you.
