NETBALL REPORT FROM 22/8/09 VS WODONGA
A grade began their game like a house on fire, taking Wodonga by Surprise. The Roos moved the ball well over the court and the attackers were working brilliantly together with goals coming with ease. Unfortunately Wodonga ran out comfortable winners in the end with 63 to 39. This week's awards went to Beck Didier (Origin Clothing & PPS), Simone Hanrahan (Corowa Hotel Meal), Lisa Davey (Ladies Committee award). Congratulations to Tegan Livingston who lined up in the A grade side at wing defence to celebrate her 50th game with the club.
B grade have improved so much from the beginning of the season. They were unable to come away with a win going down to the Bulldogs 49 to 27. Linda Eyers was back in great form to take out the Beauty Lane award and Rowena Black (Corowa Bakery award) once again was very strong in goal keeper. It was pleasing to see Lindy Singleton also back in full form after a major back injury dominating in centre and goal defence which earned her the PPS and Ladies Committee awards.
C grade went down to Wodonga 46 to 24 but like B grade have improved so much over the season. Saturday's game saw some good passages of play with Sarah Lavis playing well in centre to take the Player's Meal award and was well supported by Loren Filliponi (Sportspower award) in wing defence. Fiona Grigg continued her good performances of the past weeks to be awarded the PPS and McDonalds awards. This week's Ladies Committee award went to Lucie Webster for her hard work at goal shooter.
The netball club would like to thank the local businesses who support our club every week with awards. It is great to be able to recognise the outstanding efforts of the players.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 15/8/09 VS ALBURY
So close yet again, A grade suffered their second one goal defeat in two weeks going down 39 to 40 to Albury. Saturday's game saw yet another strong performance from Simone Hanrahan. Simone showed what a talented and great sportsperson she is and continued to work hard to shut down Albury's dangerous goal attack. Her best on court effort was rewarded taking home the Beauty Lane award. Simone and Jessica Thomas (Corowa Hotel award) have built up a great relationship over the season and combined with Hayley Kuschert (Ladies Committee award) in wing defense have been rock solid all season. Catherine Svarc (PPS & McCafe awards) in wing attack has really stood up in the second half of the season.
B grade played the best game this season so far. Albury were put onto the back foot before making a number of changes to their team to finally run out winners 58 to 22. Best on court Origin Clothing award went to Carol Eisenhauer who played GA and GS and shot really well. Rowena Black (Corowa Bakery award) and Shelbi Peoples (Ladies Committee award) were solid again and made the goalies earn every goal. Tegan Livingston (PPS & McCafe awards) played a very consistent game at centre and drove the ball down the court well.
C grade was outclassed by Albury who sit on top of the ladder, going down 64 to 21. Loren Filliponi (Player's Meal award) put in another fantastic performance in wing defense and goals. Brooke Schilg (Sportspower & PPS awards) this season has played in the circle at goal keeper and even though she gave away a number of cm in height, she battled hard all day and made the Albury goalers work hard. Tarleigh Munro (Ladies Committee award) is another of the club's young players that has improved this season and has a great future.
It is official, Corowa Rutherglen has talent, or at least the Football Netball club does. Our thanks to Matt Witherden who kept the night flowing and to judges Sir Richard Ambrose, Nancy Coppolino and Matt Grey Simons-Drum for their expert comments.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 25/7/09 VS RAIDERS
A grade started their battle a little slowly as the goalers were finding it difficult to convert their pocessions into goals. The Roos struggled to get the ball into the goal circle as Raiders lifted their defensive pressure through the mid court. They went into the last quarter determined to regain some pride and played more of the style of game that has seen them push some of the top sides, but it was too late as Wodonga Raiders run out winners 39 to 60. Catheirne Svarc has really stood out over the second half of the season and once again was rewared for ther great effort taking out the Origin Clothing and PPS awards. The Roo's defense has been the back bone of the team this season and another solid display from Simone Hanrahan (Corowa Hotel award) and Jessica Thomas (Ladies Committee award) as they battled hard all day.
B grade was outclassed by a better side. The girls did play well in patches but it was their unforced errors which turned the ball over that cost them dearly. Ruby Svarc (Beauty Lane & PPS awards) had a great game at centre and was strong around the ring both in defense and attack. Shelbi Peoples (Corowa Bakery award) was really under pressure and worked extremely hard with some great rebounding and Amy Monte (Ladies Committee award) were all solid contributors for the Roos. Raiders took the game 26 to 56 leaving the girls some work to do at training this week.
C grade had a tough task ahead with a number of players not available and Raiders a top five side. There were plenty of changes made over the course of the game and all the players adjusted well to this. Lindy Singleton (Players Meal award) pulled on the boots this week to give the girls lots of guidance on the court, Lauren Harders worked hard in goals and then in defense to take out the Sportspower award and the Ladies Committee and PPS awards went to Fiona Grigg who also saw herself at both ends of the court. Raiders were comfortable winners 59 to 20.
Thank you to all those who supported the netball raffle over the past month. It was drawn on Saturday night at the Black Tie Ball. The lucky winners were Ted Thomas (Plasma TV) and Lesley Coppolino (Stratchie Pack).
NETBALL REPORT FROM 12/7/09 VS YARRAWONGA
A Grade showed only glimpses of the form of last week as they struggled against a quality side in Yarrawonga. Yarra took control of the game in the opening few minutes and never really looked troubled by the Roos winning comfortably 69 to 34. Corowa Rutherglen had solid contributors in Beck Didier (Beauty Lane & PPS awards) who once again gave it her all in the centre. Another strong performance from Simone Hanrahan (Corowa Hotel Meal award) saw her figure in the awards again this week. This week's Ladies Committee award went to Casandra Hughes who continues to be a focal point up front for the Roos.
B Grade had a big task in front of them as they took on the inform Pigeons and it was the Roos young brigade that shone. Shelbi Peoples (Origin Clothing award) worked tirelessly in defense and with Yarra scoring 64 goals to the Roos 25, had a lot of work to do. Ashleigh Eisenhauer (Corowa Bakery and PPS awards) saw game time at both ends of the court showing her versatility. Another of the club's future stars, Ruby Svarc (Ladies Committee award), ran hard all day in the mid court and around the circle.
Both Yarrawonga and Corowa Rutherglen have very young C grade sides competing in the competition. It was the young Yarra side that took the points on this occasion 60 to 25. The Roos were best served by Loren Filliponi (Player's Meal and PPS awards), Cian Shelley (Sportspower) and Lucie Webster (Ladies Committee award). The C grade girls worked hard all game and did not give up. It was great to see them adjust as a number of positional changes were made throughout the game.
There is plenty of work over the next couple of weeks at training as all the players look forward to a break this week before taking on Wodonga Raiders.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 4/7/09 VS WANG ROVERS
After a few weeks of not great netball conditions, it was good to see the rain stay away to allow the girls to play at their best. And their best was what they produced. All three grades played some very skilled passages of netball.
A grade nearly pulled off the defeat of the season when they went down to the second placed Rovers by only three goals. It was a tight and very physical game from start to finish. Not much would separate both teams throughout the game with Rovers going into quarter time break with an 8 to 14 lead. The Roos lifted in the second quarter and through some great defensive work from Simone Hanrahan and Jess Thomas saw both teams score 10 goals each. Hayley Kuschert continued her brilliant form at wing defense to shut down Rovers prime ball mover Stacey Emms. Catherine Svarc worked hard at wing attack along with Beck Didier in centre to provide goalers Lisa Davey and Casandra Hughes with lots of opportunities. Awards - Hayley Kushcert (Origin Clothing), Simone Hanrahan (Corowa Hotel Meal), Jessica Thomas (Ladies Committee) and Casandra Hughes (PPS and McCafe).
B grade played a good tough game with players putting their bodies on the line and some coming off worst for wear against a very well drilled Wang Rovers team. Rovers took control of the game in the first quarter to set up a comfortable win 50 to 26. Lindy Singleton played her first full game after coming back from injury and showed she has lost none of her brilliance as she dominated the centre court earning her the Beauty Lane award. Shelbi Peoples (Corowa Bakery award) teamed up well with Rowena Black (PPS & McCafe award) in defense making it hard work on many occasions for the Rovers goalers. Ashleigh Eisenhauer (Ladies Committee award) come on at half time and went into goals for the first time this season and provided plenty of spark.
C grade continues each week to improve and even though the socre line was not close, Rovers ran out winners 55 to 23, the girls worked really well together and put in a huge effort for all four quarters. Fiona Grigg (Player's Meal award) had a fantastic game in defense with some great intercepts and strong rebounding. Cian Shelley (Sportspower award) is a player that has had limited court time but works hard on those one percenters. Lucie Webster (PPS & McDonalds awards) and Chelsea Bilney (Ladies Committee award) always give their all. Both girls provide plenty of drive through the court and work hard all game.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 27/6/09 VS NORTH ALBURY
The Roos were keen to push North Albury as they helped Beck Didier celebrate her 100th O&M game. This is Beck's second season with the Roos having played in the competition previously with Wodonga. Beck is passionate about netball and her enthusiasm has been infectious around the club. She has a great knowledge of the game and in her role as coach is always pushing the players to strive to be their best. Congratulations Beck.
North Albury is one of the leaders of the competition and the Roos would need to produce something special to take out the points. The girls didn't get over the line going down 61 to 38 but they did put in a great effort to make North Albury work hard for the points. Catherine Svarc produced her best game of the season to take out the Beauty Lane award. Catherine has showed glimpses of what she can do throughout the season, but Saturday was her day and she played a brilliant game in wing attack. Simone Hanrahan who each week plays against some of the best players in country Victoria and once again can hold her head high as she produced another fantastic effort to take out the Corowa Hotel Meal award. The Ladies Committee award and PPS went to Lisa Davey who worked hard not only in the goal circle but all over the court.
B grade played a very consistent and tight game against North Albury. It was hard to pick the best, but Tegan Livingston (Origin Clothing) and Ruby Svarc (Corowa Bakery), were standout performers as the work they did in the centre really made the job for the attack and the defenders a lot easier. Rowena Black had another strong game in goal keeper which earned her the PPS and Ladies Committee awards after coming back from injury. The final score saw North Albury run out winners 57 to 32.
C grade started strong with some great passages of play down the court but found it hard to keep up the momentum as North Albury had too much height and experience for the Roos. The young Roos continue to work hard each week and are really starting to gel together and play some great netball. It is a big learning curve for these girls who week in and week out come up against much more experienced players, but to their credit continue to train hard and are full of enthusiasm. The final score was North Albury 73 to Corowa Rutherglen 30. This week's awards went to Renee Ronnfeldt (Player's Meal award), Loren Filliponi (Sportspwer, PPS & McDonalds) and Cian Shelley (Ladies Committee).
NETBALL REPORT FROM 13/6/09 VS LAVINGTON
A grade had a really close game against the Panthers in the first round and were hoping to be able to push Panthers all the way. The Roos struggled to make the most of their attacking opportunities and had the ball turned over too often. Once again, the defenders Jess Thomas (Beauty Lane award), Simone Hanrahan (Corowa Hotel meal award) and Catherine Svarc (Ladies Committee award) did a great job against one of the league's best shooting combinations working hard all day. Beck Didier put in another strong performance starting in goals and then moving to centre to take out the PPS and McCafe awards.
B grade lost on Saturday but they put up a great fight and only going down by 12 goals in the end. Ruby Svarc once again played outstanding at wing attack earning her the best on court PPS and McCafe awards along with the Origin Clothing award. She was well back up by Tegan Livingston (Corowa Bakery award) in centre who played a fantastic game. Carol Eisenhauer had a very consistent game in goal shooter and so did Amy Monte before she had to come off due to injury. Lucie Webster (Ladies Committee award) replaced her and played a great game in goal attack.
C grade showed just how far they have come this season, but could not keep up the intensity for the entire game. The girls were unable to match Panthers all over the court but also on the scoreboard. The girls failed to take the momentum into the last quarter and the Panthers were able to build on their lead. This week's awards went to Lucie Webster (Player's Meal award, PPS & McCafe awards), Chelsea Bilney (Sportspower award) and Loren Filliponi (Ladies Committee award).
The netball club would like to wish Simone Hanrahan all the best as she represents Corowa High and the Riverina in the State High Schools tournament this week. She returns from the tournament to then represent Corowa Rutherglen and the O&M in the State Championships in Melbourne on Sunday.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 6/6/09 VS WODONGA
Firstly, congratulations to the girls that have been representing the Corowa Rutherglen Netball Club each Monday night in the Albury Netball Association competition over the past four months. Last Monday night was Grand Final night and the girls took out the Division 2 Grand Final by four goals against an Albury team. It has been a great success and has allowed some of the younger players an opportunity to play with the A & B grade girls and gain invaluable court time. Thanks to Lisa Davey who took on the role of organiser and coach of the team. You did our club proud - well done.
Saturday was a tough day for the A grade Roos. Not only was the weather not ideal for netball but the Roos also faced a tough challenge against the inform Wodonga Bulldogs. Wodonga play a very physical style of netball and the Roos found it difficult to find an avenue into goals. Lisa Davey made the most of her limited opportunities in goals also working hard around the circle to take out the Corowa Hotel Meal award. The Ladies Committee award went to Casandra Hughes who has taken on a position that is totally new and a large learning curve and always gives it her best. The Roos defenders lead by Simone Hanrahan (Origin Clothing, PPS & McCafe awards) once again did a great job and each week stands up to the task of playing on some of the best goalers in the area. The girls never gave up and continued to pressure the Bulldogs all over the court. The final scores were Wodonga 62 to CRFC 27.
The B grade was great to watch and the girls showed what they are capable of. It was also good to see Linda Eyers return to the court after a long layoff due to injury. Coach Lindy Singleton also continues to recover from injury and it will not be too long before we see her talents on the court again. In a surprise move Beck Didier (PPS & McCafe award) took the court to play three quarters in the B grade to help the girls work together and gel as a team. Shelbi Peoples really stepped up and played a fantastic game at goal defense to take out the Beauty Lane award. Both goalers worked well together with Amy Monte (Corowa Bakery award) having a stint in goal keeper after Rowena Black had to leave the court due to injury. The final score saw the Roos go down 59 to 48.
C grade bounced back from the disappointment of last week's game to put together some great passages of play. Although they were beaten 63 to 36, it was a marked improvement on their previous outing. The Roos were best served by Loren Filliponi (Player's Meal award) who seemed to be everywhere. Loren was also judged the best on court by the opposition coach and was awarded the PPS and McDonalds awards. Chelsea Bilney (Sportspower award) also put in another solid game in the centre court. New comer to the club Renee Ronnfeldt (Ladies Committee award) played an important role as goal keeper as she continues to work hard at training and do what is asked of her on game day.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 30/5/09 VS ALBURY
Saturday we unveiled our new uniforms and sponsors and they look great. We would like to acknowledge the support of our sponsors in making these uniforms possible.
Uniform sponsor - GJ Gardner Homes
Shirt sponsor - Wodonga Presitge Volkswagon
Other sponsors - Steeline Roofing & Home Centre, Gyles Newsagency, Royal Hotel, Corowa Meats, Hotel Australia and Corowa RSL Club
A grade played well for three quarters matching Albury on the scoreboard and over the court. Unfortunately a slow start in the first quarter cost them dearly and Albury gained a solid lead that the Roos could not real in. Once again Beck Didier (Beauty Lane award) and Simone Hanrahan (Corowa Hotel meal award) were the standout performers. Lisa Davey worked hard at goal attack (Ladies Committee award). It was a disappointing result for the girls who after last performance know they are capable of better things. PPS and McCafe awards and auction winner went to Beck Didier. Albury won this round 46 to 32.
B grade played the ladder leaders and had a tough task ahead of them. The Roos struggled all day to penetrate the Albury defense and with limited supply into the goalers the Roos had few opportunities to score. Defenders Shelbi Peoples (Corowa Bakery award) and Rowena Black (Ladies Committee award) worked well together to try and shutdown the Albury attackers. It was great to see Ruby Svarc (Origin Clothing award) return from injury and have an impact on the game. The PPS and McCafe awards and auction player also went to Ruby Svarc. Final score was Albury 56 to Corowa Rutherglen 21.
C grade also had a tough task as Albury are top of the ladder undefeated. The young Roos worked hard all day playing some great netball in patches but they had few answers for Albury's experience and height over the court going down 78 to 18. Lucie Webster (Player's Meal award) had a good game in goals, Sarah Lavis (Sportspower award) worked hard all game through the centre court and was also awarded the PPS and McDonalds awards and was voted the auction player. Lauren Harders (Ladies Committee award) made the most of her limited court time to play at both ends of the court and putting in a solid performance.
The netball club are running their major fundraiser for the season - a 42" Plasma TV is the first prize and $100 scratchie is the second prize. Tickets are $5 and are available from any netball player. The raffle wil be drawn at the Raiders home game on 25th July.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 16/5/09 VS WANGARATTA
A grade finally got some points on the board when they played out a very excisting draw against Wangaratta on Saturday. The Roos have struggled over the last few weeks to find their from but Saturday was a marked improvement. The Roos gained the upper hand in the first quarter with some great defensive work all over the court forcing Wang to turn over the ball. The second quarter saw Wang lift the tempo and outscore the Roos to gain the slimment of leads at half time. Both teams had their chances to break clear, but missed goals and turnovers kept the scores goal for goal. It was a fitting end, with a draw of 43 each, to a great game played with great sportsmanship and intensity. Best players were hard to pick with the Origin Clothing award to Lisa Davey, Corowa Hotel Meal to Simone Hanrahan, Ladies Committee award to Catherine Svarc and PPS & McCafe awards to Simone Hanrahan.
The B grade game saw a different look team take the court. Ruby Svarc and Bec Kuschert were both out this week but hopefully they will be back after the bye and we can then work on settling the team. Shelbi Peoples came up from C grade after playing three quarters and played really well. Loren Filliponi also came up and played a good fast game at WA. There were some good passages of play as the game wore on. Wang were winners at 66 to 29. Tegan Livingston played her best game of the season in the centre to win the Beauty Lane award, Rowena Black who week in and week out gives 100% played another solid game in defense to take out the Corowa Bakery award. The Ladies Committee award went to Amy Monte and the PPS & McCafe awards went to Rowena Black.
C grade continues to work hard at training and is learning each week how tough O&M netball is. After the high of last week's win the young Roos side could not match with a much older, taller and stronger Wang side going down 62 to 26. The week's awards went to Shelbi Peoples (Player's Meal award), Sportspower to Tarleigh Munro, Sarah Lavis received the Ladies Committee award and the PPS & McCafe awards went to Fiona Grigg.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 9/5/09 VS MYRTLEFORD
A perfect day greeted us as we travelled to Myrtleford to play the Saints. C grade set a high standard for the remaining games when they pulled off their first win for the season.
The C grade girls came to play netball and from the start played strong netball with great focus and confidence with each other. Shelbi, Brooke and Renee were very strong in defense, playing tight and rebounding well, while Loren and Chelsea worked the ball fast through the centre court feeding the goalers with great passing and patience. Lucie and Fiona played in goals together for the first time working well and taking every opportunity to score. With Tarleigh coming on at half time, she did everything the coach asked of her playing tight in WD and getting her hands to some great balls. The whole team played a fantastic game to come out victors 40 to 32, a game to make the coach proud. Well done girls. The awards went to Lucie Webster (Player's Meal award and Auction Player), Loren Filliponi (Sportspower award) and the PPS and McDonalds award also went to Lucie Webster.
Once again B grade had a different line up with Hayley Thomson coming down from A grade to play in defense with Rowena. They combined really well and made it very difficult for the Myrtleford goalies. Carol Eisenhauer once again was very solid in goals shooting at a very high percentage earning her the best on court - Origin Clothing award and the PPS award. We had some great passages of play through the centre court which shows that our training is starting to pay off. Loren Filliponi came on at half time after playing a full game in C grade and played realy well in WD which saw her awarded the Corowa Bakery award. Well done Loren. Overall the girls tried their best making a very good game of netball to watch. The final score was Myrtleford 54 defeating Corowa Rutherglen 36. The Auction Player was Carol Eisenhauer.
A grade, well it's a work in progress. Unfortunately the girls could not break it for their first win, but they played better netball than against Raiders and with Lindy trying a few different options in the second half the girls did play three reasonable quarters. A disastrous second term once again allowed the Saints to gain a big lead and the Roos had trouble pulling it back. The defense end was again the stand out and Rebecca Kuschert played a brilliant game in WD to be rewarded with the Beauty Lane award. Bec Didier put in another solid performance in both centre and GA and was named PPS and Auction Player. She will also enjoy a meal with the compliments of the Corowa Hotel. The final score saw Myrtleford 46 winners over the Roos 27.
It was great to see coach Lindy Singleton take the court for a quarter in both C and B grades as she makes her way back from a serious back injury. The club looks forward to having her back in action and at full fitness soon.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 2/5/09 VS WODONGA RAIDERS
It was a disappointed A grade that came off the court on Saturday, after playing so well the week before, the girls could not find that form again and were well beaten by Raiders. The Roos had limited scoring opportunities, while the defenders worked overtime to keep us in the game. Final scores were Raiders 63 defeating Roos 30. With lots ot work on at training the girls now turn their focus to next week against Myrtleford. This week's awards - Origin Clothing to Simone Hanrahan who just continues to cause all kinds of problems for opposition goalers. Simone was also this week's PPS, McCafe and auction player. Beck Didier put in another very solid performance in Centre to be awarded the Corowa Hotel Meal award.
The B grade girls started off a bit slow but got it together for the next three quarters. The damage had been done and the Roos could not pull back the lead Raiders had created. To their credit they hung in there for the entire game giving it 100%. Final score was Raiders 43 defeating Corowa Rutherglen 28. Jess Thomas (Beauty Lane award) was solid all game in defense and was backed up well with Rowena Black. Ashleigh Eisenhauer (Corowa Bakery award) played her first full game in B grade at Wing Defense and played a really good game. Ruby Svarc once again was in great form and took out the PPS, McCafe and auction player, playing a very quick and agile game in Wing Attack.
The Roos young C grade side struggled to match their more experienced opponents and while they had plenty of the netball they could not convert it into goals. The team was thrown around with coach Carol making plenty of changes to gain the most from her players. The girls continue to improve and with a more settled team in the weeks to come, the girls will start to push opposition sides. The final score saw Raiders run out comfortable winners 46 to 17. Awards this week - Shelbi Peoples who played in both goals and defense, was awarded the Players Meal award, Sarah lavis continued to put in great games week after week and was this week's winner of the Sportspower award. Fiona Grigg was this week's winner of the PPS, McDonalds and auction player awards.
Our thanks to all those local businesses who support our club with weekly awards, it is great to be able to reward the players for their great efforts.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 26/4/09 VS YARRAWONGA
Sunday saw the traditional match of the river rivals as the Roos took on teams from Yarrawonga. It also say the players taste real winter weather from the first time this season.
A grade once again showed they are not that far from a win matching the undefeated Yarra in the first quarter, going into the break at 9 goals all. Yarrawonga lifted the intensity in the second term and the Roos struggled to move the ball through the centre court, but the girls kept working hard. Yarra continued to pull away in the third quarter with the score line 44 to 26 at three-quarter time. The Roos had some work to do and set themselves a goal to outscore Yarra in the last term. The Roos once again found their rhythm and the ball moved more freely to the goalers, with Corowa-Rutherglen outscoring Yarrawonga 15 to 9. The final socre being Yarrawonga 53 to Corowa-Rutherglen 41. Roo defenders Hayley Kuschert (Ladies Committee Award), Simone Hanrahan (Beauty Lane Award and McCafe Award) and Bec Kuschert (Corowa Hotel Meal Award) worked extremely hard turning the ball over and rebounding the few goals that Yarra shooters missed and their work was rewarded. Simone was also judged the best on court by the opposition coach and was the PPS and auction player winner.
B grade encountered the worst conditions of the day playing the majority of their game in the wind and rain. The girls did not adapt well to the conditions and had trouble moving the ball into the goalers. Yarrawonga took control of the game early and the Roos struggled to have any impact. Some changes at three-quarter time saw some improvement and the girls moved the ball more freely. The final score was Yarrawonga 58 to Corowa-Rutherglen 14. The awards went to Rowena Black (Origin Clothing), Ruby Svarc (Corowa Bakery), PPS and McCafe award to Carol Eisenhauer, Tegan Livingston (Ladies Committee Award), the auction player was Carol Eisenhauer.
C grade continues to improve as they become more comfortable with each other and as a team. The girls worked really well for three quarters showing that they can play good netball. Unfortunately the lapse in concentration in the second quarter proved costly allowing Yarra to gain a good lead that the Roos could not pull back, finally going down 34 to Yarra 48. Players Meal Award went to Lauren Filliponi who worked hard at goal attack along with Sarah Lavis (Ladies Committee Award) who played a great defensive game at wing defence before moving to centre. Amy Monte received the Sportspower, McDonalds Award and auction player.
Thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets at the gate. The winning ticket numbers were Blue B21, Red F100 and Orange F30. Also our thanks to all those who enjoyed our beautiful pasta dinner after the game.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 18/4/09 VS WANG ROVERS
A Grade went into the game with confidence after last week's game, but were quickly bought back to earth as they struggled to match Wang Rovers speed over the court. Rovers took control from the first centre and the Roos could not get their flowing game going. The defence end worked overtime and did a fantastic job with the Origin Clothing award going to Jessica Thomas. The goalers had limited opportunities, but worked hard. A change at half time saw Hayley Kuschert move from defence to Wing Attack and this opened up the attack end. Once again Beck Didier played well running the ball through the centre. A grade had patches of great netball but were not able to overcome the Rovers going down 60 to 31. PPS and Auction winner was Lisa Davey.
B Grade played well but couldn't match the Wangaratta Rovers. Our first half was very ordinary but the second half the girls picked up and played some good netball. Rovers are a very quick side and we couldn't match their speed and drive down the court. Credit to the girls though, they hung in there till the very end and gave it their all. Best on court was Ruby Svarc (Beauty Lane Award) who controlled the centre court and did everything that was asked of her. She combined well with Tegan Livingston and also Ashleigh Eisenhauer who came up from C grade. Rowena Black (Corowa Bakery Award) had another very consistent game in defence and was supported well by Bec Kuschert (PPS and Auction winner). The final score was 55 to 18.
C Grade tried hard all day against a much stronger Wangaratta Rovers side with Brooke Schilg giving her all in goal attack for the first two quarters. The girls had a strong last quarter and showed that they can play good netball but Rovers has too much experience going down 29 to 66. The awards went to Carol Eisenhauer (Players Meal Award) for another solid game in goals. Fiona Grigg continues to improve and once again features in the awards winning the Sportspower Award. This week PPS and Auction winner is Carol Eisenhauer.
After this week's game against Yarrawonga the netballers will once again be providing dinner in the clubrooms. It is your choice of pasta - Lasagna, Bolognaise or Carbonara - for only $5 for adults and $2 for kids from 6pm. So why cook? Come along and enjoy a social drink and some delicious pasta while supporting the netball girls.
NETBALL REPORT FROM 11/4/09 VS LAVY
A Grade
The large crowd were treated to a great game of netball on Saturday as the Roos took on the Lavington Panthers at John Foord Oval.
A grade showed plenty of promise last week and carried their form into this week's game. From the first whistle it was a close encounter with no more than five goals separating the teams the whole game. The Roos hit the front in the last quarter but were unable to withstand the Panther's experience and went down 48 to 45.
Corowa-Rutherglen defenders Hayley Kuschert and Jess Thomas played a tight game making the Panther shooters work hard, both girls applied plenty of pressure over the shoot and rebounded well. Simone Hanrahan shut down Panther's dangerous wing attack, who had very little impact on the game. The Roos mid court of Beck Didier and Catherine Svarc worked so hard intercepting loose passes and providing plenty of drive down the court, combined with some great passing into the goalers Lisa Davey and Casandra Hughes, who played together for the first time. The game was great to watch and showed the girls what they are capable of doing.
Coach Lindy Singleton was full of praise for the players and could not fault their commitment and determination under the pressure of a team that finished third last season.
PPS Award - Beck Didier
Origin Clothing Award - Beck Didier
Coach's Award - Simone Hanrahan
B Grade
B grade were disappointed after the strong performance last week. They struggled to overcome the height of the Lavington side. The Roos showed patches of great play but not enough to come away with a win, going down 57 to 25. Defenders Rowena Black and Bec Kuschert played well, playing tight defence and making the Panthers goalers work hard. The centre court had limited opportunities as the Panthers played tight defence through the mid court and in the circle. The goalers worked hard but were unable to convert. There were still plenty of positives from the game with the girls running out the game in hot conditions.
PPS Award - Lucie Webster

C Grade
C grade continue to work hard and although beaten 65 to 21, the young team show plenty of potential. The Roos were unable to match Lavington but the girls gave it their best. In a surprise positional change Brooke Schilg was moved to goal keeper and played a fantastic game.

NETBALL REPORT FROM 4/4/09 VS NORTH ALBURY
A Grade
Well A grade started off the season with a bang. Their first quarter was brilliant with the new young blood Catherine and Ruby Svarc and Simone Hanrahan shining through and the defenders intercepting everything that came their way helping the team to be up by one goal at the first break. Unfortunately Catherine who was proving she was ready for A grade had to come off due to breathing problems which upset our momentum. Simone was also very exciting to watch at WD for three quarters of the game until moved into GD on one of the best goalers in the league and still impressed with some strong rebounds and intercepts. Overall the team played exceptionally well against the reigning premiers with some patches of brilliances. An exciting season ahead. Go Roos.

B Grade
We lost today but we played some really good netball especially against the runners up from last year. Bec Kuschert played a great game in GD and drove the balld own the court really well. Bec Kuschert and Rowena Black teamed up well in defense which kept the Hopper score down. Cian Shelley played a great game in WA and Centre in her debut in O&M netball. Well done girls.

C Grade
C grade started well with newcomers Fiona Grigg and Ashleigh Eisenhauer finding new positions in defense, playing well against taller and more experienced shootes. With the whole team giving their all, their determination and hard work they displayed is a sign that they can play great netball with the willingness to learn from their senior netball club members.
