Taberner picked by Dockers

MURRAY Bushrangers key forward Matt Taberner was chosen at pick 11 by the Fremantle Dockers in the AFL 2012 Rookie Draft yesterday.

Taberner's prediction of going as a rookie selection was spot on, and he finds himself in the purple jumper in WA under senior coach Ross Lyon, his AFL aspirations a step closer to being fulfilled.

Called up to play for the Bushrangers late in the season after shining for Myrtleford in the OandM, the athletic forward became the major marking option in attack for the Saints after captain Matt Spencer went down in round one with a knee injury.

Given his ability to work up and down the ground, Taberner will relish the space provided at Subiaco.

The selection came as a relief but not necessarily a surprise, as the 19-year-old started training with the Dockers recently.

Having been chosen to join the AFL side, Taberner can now get on with settling in without wondering what the future holds.
