Mooney Takes Reins Mooney takes reins
Andrew Mooney is Horsham United Football and Netball Club’s new president after being elected unopposed at the club’s annual general meeting on October 20th.
Mooney is agribusiness manager at the National Bank and his calculated input at committee level has played a vital link in the club’s recent financial success.
Outgoing president Bill Lovel said he was pleased to be able to step down from the role knowing the club was in its healthiest financial position ever.
“We’ve really gone ahead in leaps and bounds through a lot of hard work and sensible planning,” Lovel said.
“But just because we are in a good position financially doesn’t mean we should relax our methods though,” he said.
“Our next step is to improve our on-field success. Our under 15 netballers were fantastic this year, providing the club with another premiership but we can still achieve much more in both football and netball.”
Lovel will remain on the committee as Director of Senior Football.
The club also has a new secretary with Christine Chapple taking over from long serving secretary Viovian Hiscock.
Chapple has been a club supporter for several years, with sons Tory and Kye playing vital roles as quality players for the KFC Diggers. Her husband Bryan has been team manager of the under 17s footballers for the past few years and is a key helper within the club.
Christine has plenty of committee experience, having worked as a secretary for other Horsham sporting clubs.
Outgoing secretary Vivian Hiscock was praised at the meeting for her outstanding work over several years. She has stepped down to take on the role as secretary for Wimmera Netball Association because it is Horsham United’s turn to run the association for the next 12 months.
Duncan Bottoms is new vice president while Jeff Wallis will remain as treasurer and Director of Finance. Wallis was also praised for his outstanding work in updating the club’s finances to a computer system.
