Gembrook Cockatoo v Alexandra
Round 3.
The Brookers headed up the highway this weekend to a sunny picturesque Alexandra in the hope of securing a needed win in all grades. This hope eventuated with every team winning their match by considerable margins against teams who were unfortunate to have not had a pre-season preparation. Coming up from Division 2 is hard enough as the Brookers have experienced over the last few seasons but Alexandra has done it tough over the last few months after winning a premiership and then going through the horrific bushfire season. This showed on the football field as all grades struggled against fit Gembrook Cockatoo Teams. To their credit Alexandra put up a good fight as the BrookerâÂÂs still had to play 4 quarters of tough footy.
We would like to thank Alexandra for their great hospitality, a great club with great spirit.
Seniors
Gembrook Cockatoo 19 6 120 def Alexandra 10 16 76
The seniors came out firing in the first quarter with 4 unanswered goals. The big ruckman Craig Clarke being very effective in the centre clearances and new recruit Rick Clark sweeping the ball towards the Brookers forward line.
The second quarter saw Alex compose themselves coming back at the Brookers kicking some handy goals to keep them in the game. At half time the senior coach gave the players a talking to which gave them the motivation and confidence to take the game on their terms kicking 9 goals to one in the third. The pace dropping off in the 4th quarter the Brookers again were challenged by Alex but managed to hold their nerve and take the first win for the season.
Outstanding performances were by Rick Clark with 50 touches for the day and forward John Robinson who kicked 8 goals with great leading and steady hands.

Under 18s
Gembrook 16.13.109 def Alexandra 9.11.65
An early start due to a long drive through fire affected Victoria we arrived in Alexandra to a big beautiful ground
The first quarter saw the young brookers start well but allowed Alex to fight back through the quarter
After a massive spray at quarter time we kicked it up a gear, led by Brett Pie in the midfield and matt Rampage up forward kicking 4 goals for the quarter himself (Gembrook kicked 9).
The second half of the game was a bit up and down with some good passages of play but then lapses of concentration.
At the end of the day the brookers had a good win our first for the season well done boys!
