The under 17s were
out first and it
was great to see that all players contributed to their impressive win over South Gawler.
The
team was ably led by Jack Madgen, Brent O’Driscoll and Josh Osborne. In the very
difficult conditions, there was no doubting the lads’ determination and
competitive spirit which was a big factor in the result. Just one more match
now for this group, who will contest the Grand Final for the first time in 15
years. Congratulations to all those who are involved and good luck for the big
one!
The A grade took
to the ground in what proved to be deteriorating conditions. Within minutes of
the first ‘bounce’ all the players were covered in mud and it was impossible to
distinguish between the two teams. In the second quarter the fog rolled in
blanketing the oval making it impossible to see across the ground creating very
surreal conditions. Gale force wind at half time blew away the fog but brought
driving rain as both sides could do no more than push the ball forward then
back from one wrestle to another.
The whole team
never gave up all day with every contest hard fought. The conditions ensured
that the ball could not be kicked more than twenty metres at a time.
In the end the
game went down to an agonising tussle with the lads unable to break through.
Best on the day
included Michael Taylor, Adam Spencer, Matt Stelzer, Aaron McAlpine, Ross
Christie and Ashley Amber.
Congratulation
also to Ashley for his 100 game with the Club.
The players were unanimous
in agreeing that the conditions were the worst that they had ever played in,
including those who had played when it was snowing. That said, the
Club wishes to congratulate Angaston Football Club in doing a great job on what
was an extraordinarily miserable day.
The team will
spend this week regrouping for their game against Gawler Central.
This should be a
hard fought contest with the lads determined to rebound.
All supporters are
encouraged to come along and encourage the lads.
Last Wednesday saw the presentation evening for the younger
junior teams. It was very well attended with all the families enjoying the

This playing unit
had a very successful season with all players improving with each game. The
work load was shared around with all players kicking at least two goals for the
season. In the end they won 15 games and only losing two. Kelly Platten in
particular had a wonderful final season with the club and provided strong
contested work all the time. Thanks to all players for a great season.
Also special thanks to Naomi Brown for washing the very muddy
jumpers
