During 2012 it became apparent to the EFL Board that EFL players did not have adequate levels of insurance available should a football incident result in paraplegia or quadriplegia. The benefit available for these types of injuries in 2012 was capped at $100,000.
The EFL through their insurance brokers, BJS Insurance and Sportscover Insurance, have secured a broad level of cover that provides:
- clubs with Public Liability and Director and Officer insurance;
- personal accident cover for all players and officials;
- $1million of cover for injuries that result in quadriplegia or paraplegia;
