Sultry was the only name to describe the conditions the Ladies Pairs had to endure in today’s Championships. . . The afternoon sun played hide and seek with low-flying cumulus and high level cirrus - a prelude to even more humid weather later in the day.
Meanwhile, down to earth on the rinks, fours team of two battled for supremacy in the Plate and Major championships.
The Major was a fierce contest between the team of Jo Dunne and Val Weaver against the partnership of Margaret Anderson and Maureen Dalton. On the last end at 14/14, the decisive blow was dealt by Maureen who scored the winning shot and claimed victory with 15 shots to 14.
The Plate however, was played at a less frenetic pace with Annette Sheridan and Trish Klisc up against the formidable, in-form pairing of Heather Golding and Jean Boyne.
Annette and Trish tried as best they could but to no avail, and eventually conceded the match at 8/18 to Heather and Jean.
Once again we owe our thanks to Melva Lee of Kelmscott Dry Cleaners who very generously sponsor this event year after year.
Our appreciation also goes to Ann Noble (and her sidekick Jane Singleton) for the effort and work that goes into organising and running an event such as this.
